It’s been over a year since Netflix released the first season of the Katee Sackhoff-starring sci-fi drama Another Life, and despite announcing its renewal in October 2019, there’s still little news about Another Life Season 2.
With a second season supposedly on its way, let’s take a look at what we know so far about Another Life Season 2.
Season One of Another Life ended with journalist Harper Glass (Selma Blair) telling Earth that the aliens known as the Achaia aren’t dangerous, but are peaceful, friendly aliens. However, Glass’ mind is under the control of the Achaia, and their goal is to mislead the people of Earth and ultimately destroy them. So… things aren’t looking good for Katee Sackhoff and the crew of the Salvare.
Katee Sackhoff And The Cast Of Season 2
Katee Sackhoff not only stars in Another Life as Niko Breckinridge, she’s also one of the show’s producers. So of course, she will be back for Another Life season 2.
So while Katee Sackhoff’s Niko will be back, there are a few characters not expected to make a return in Another Life Season 2, unless the show decides to bring them back from the dead. First, the Salvare’s pilot Ian Yerxa (Tyler Hoechlin) as killed by Katee Sackhoff’s Niko in the first season, so it’s unlikely he’ll be coming back from the dead at least not in the flesh. Not to mention, Hoechlin will also likely be busy with his upcoming role as Superman and his alter-ego Clark Kent on the new series, Superman & Lois, debuting in 2021.
Also don’t expect to see Sasha (Jake Abel) in Another Life Season 2, since he also met his end in the show’s first season. Petra Smith (Chanelle Peloso) also likely won’t make a return, since her nervous system was pulled out of her in Season One. Unless…you don’t need nerves to survive?
But with so many deaths happening aboard the Salvare, Another Life Season 2 will have plenty of new characters joining Katee Sackhoff’s crew.
According to Deadline, Tongayi Chirisa, from this year’s Palm Springs and Antebellum has been cast as a series regular. Deadline reports that Chirisa will star as Richard Ncube, a veteran fighter in many Earth campaigns. Richard is known for making life-or-death decisions in the heat of battle.
Also joining the cast alongside Katee Sackhoff is Dillon Casey (Remedy, The Vow) as Seth Gage, the head of Homeland Security, who is tasked with taking over the alien response, since First Contact with the aliens has been established. The description also says he’s affable and profession on the surface, but incredibly ambitious, determined to make the alien’s arrival work best for his own advantage.
Another Life Season 2 has also cast Shannon Chan-Kent (Woke, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) as Iara, a hybrid alien-human A.I. Neither Katee Sackhoff’s crew of the Salvare or the Achaia aliens completely trust Iara, yet she’s hoping to find some place she belongs.
Finally, Another Life Season 2 will be joined by Kurt Yaeger (Sons of Anarchy) as Dillon Conner, a military engineer who lost one of his legs to an IED during one of his many battles on Earth.
The Plot Of Another Life Season 2
In an interview with Collider after the release of Season One, star and producer Katee Sackhoff stated that she, along with creator Aaron Martin (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Slasher) and producer Noreen Halpern (Alias Grace) already knew where the show was going from the very beginning. “We know where the show potentially will go for the first three seasons. As an actor, that was new for me. To really be a part of those conversations and to have an opinion was really cool.”
Even though later in the same interview, Katee Sackhoff says that no one is safe, not even her character of Niko, it seems extremely likely as the face and producer of the show, Niko will make it for at least the first three seasons.
But expect Another Life Season Two to pick up where Season One left off, naturally. The first season focused on Niko (Katee Sackhoff) and her husband Erik (Justin Chatwin), who is at home on Earth taking care of their daughter Jana (Lina Renna), who has leukemia.
It seems likely that Another Life Season Two will have to deal with the ramifications of Glass being under the control of the Achaia, leaving Earth to protect itself from the aliens that believe to be friendly. Most important in this deception is Erik, who has taken Jana to the Achaia in the hope that they can heal his daughter.
When Can We Expect It On Netflix
There’s no clear idea of when Netflix plans on releasing Another Life Season 2. Netflix debuted Season One on July 25, 2019, and soon renewed the show in October 2019 for a second season. A year later, however, there’s still no news on when the next season might debut.
Like Season One, Another Life Season 2 is currently being shot in Vancouver, British Columbia with Katee Sackhoff and the entire cast. While production was planned to begin on March 2, 2020 and end on June 9, 2020, the schedule was understandably thrown off due to COVID-19. Yet Another Life Season 2 restarted filming on August 20, 2020 and is expected to finish shooting on November 24, 2020.
If Another Life Season 2 continues on its current schedule, it seems extremely likely that the adventures of Katee Sackhoff’s Captain Niko Breckinridge and the Salvare spaceship could return as early as the first half of 2021.
