Anne Hathaway’s Breakout Drama Is Streaming For Free
The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway's breakout film, is currently ranked on Freevee.
Fans may know Anne Hathaway from a variety of roles including her musical turn as Fantine in Les Miserables and Selina, Catwoman, in The Dark Knight Rises. However, her breakout appearance in a mature role was in The Devil Wears Prada, the hit movie co-starring Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt. Flix Patrol records that the movie is on FreeVee and placed in the top 10 in the United States.
The Devil Wears Prada is based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Lauren Weisberger about her time working under US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, fictionalized and embellished as Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly. Anne Hathaway plays Andy Sachs, a young journalist who signs up to be an intern under the famous editor, despite being a fish out of water in the fashion industry. Worlds collide as Andy’s life is consumed by Miranda’s demands, facing her with questions about her own ambitions and how far she is willing to go to achieve them.
Anna Wintour famously wore Prada to the movie’s New York premiere, and afterward made the remark that it would go straight to DVD. However, it instead earned an array of awards including Oscar nominations and a Golden Globe for Meryl Streep. It also marked the emergence of Anne Hathaway and co-star Emily Blunt, as the two actresses banter back and forth playing the dual assistants to the cruelly ambitious Miranda.
Anne Hathaway had already made her mark in The Princess Diaries and its sequel as a teenager who finds out she is the heir to a royal family, and these two live-action fairy tales were hit family movies of their time. She appeared in Brokeback Mountain, her first more adult character, and that movie went on to Oscar fame, but it wasn’t until she played the lead in The Devil Wears Prada that the actress soared to stardom.
Eventually, she would go on to play the White Queen in Tim Burton’s Wonderland movies, novelist Jane Austen in Becoming Jane, astronaut and space explorer Brand in Interstellar, and the Grand High Witch in the 2020 remake of Roald Dahl’s The Witches.
Recently, Anne Hathaway talked about what a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada might look like, speculating about the lives of the characters in 2022. She mentioned that the movie could not be made the same way now as it was when it was first released, because media has become largely digital and that a reboot would probably be a better option to bring the story to a new audience.
Anne Hathaway also got to meet the inspiration for Miranda Priestly, as she sat next to Anna Wintour during a charity screening of The Devil Wears Prada during 2021’s New York Fashion Week.
Miranda Priestly is truly the boss from Hell and audiences love to see her, as evidenced by the FreeVee numbers. The movie is available on the streaming service hosted by Amazon, which means viewers just need to access Amazon Prime and enjoy the movie for free. Anne Hathaway is at her best in this film, foreshadowing her many great roles since.
