This Oscar-winning actress is heading back to the stars courtesy of an Oscar-nominated filmmaker. Our trusted and proven sources have revealed Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises) will star in the sci-fi epic and Netflix original film Eclipse Convergence. Helming the film is Ryan Coogler, best known for his acclaimed work in the Black Panther and Creed movie franchises.

During their journey, Captain Williams and her crew experience a rare cosmic event which somehow endows them with special powers.

While Eclipse Convergence will not be set in a superhero cinematic universe like those maintained by DC and Marvel, the film will find both Anne Hathaway and Ryan Coogler creating a world changed by the advent of extraordinary abilities in a small group of people.

Our sources say Anne Hathaway will play Captain Nia Williams in Eclipse Convergence, who commands humanity’s first manned mission to Mars. During their journey, Captain Williams and her crew experience a rare cosmic event which somehow endows them with special powers. Williams and her colleagues are forced to confront not only their new abilities, but the responsibilities those new powers give them.

We’ve exclusively learned Anne Hathaway will lead the Netflix film Eclipse Convergence, helmed by Black Panther‘s Ryan Coogler.

While Eclipse Convergence may not be a DC or Marvel film, its premise is reminiscent of a few comic book and comic book inspired properties, most notably the Fantastic Four. In the source material and most adaptations, the members of the FF get their powers after being pelted by cosmic rays during a space journey.

To any avid TV watchers from the mid-00s, Anne Hathaway’s upcoming film — particularly considering the title — will remind them of NBC’s Heroes which featured characters from all over the world inexplicably being blessed with extraordinary abilities after an eclipse.

Eclipse Convergence will mark the very first screen collaboration between Anne Hathaway and Ryan Coogler, but neither are new to sci-fi.

Then there is the lesser known comic book series Rising Stars — written by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski — first published in the late ’90s. The series, which probably gave more inspiration to Heroes than the writers of the show would like to admit, presents a world in which 113 people suddenly find themselves with super powers after a fiery comet comes to Earth.

Eclipse Convergence will mark the very first screen collaboration between Anne Hathaway and Ryan Coogler, but neither are new to sci-fi. Coogler wrote and directed both of Marvel’s Black Panther films, and in March The X-Files creator Chris Carter told Variety Coogler was going to reboot his beloved sci-fi series. There’s also the Wakanda-centered show Coogler was developing for Disney+, but updates on that project have been scarce for some time now.

Meanwhile along with playing Selina Kyle aka Catwoman in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, Anne Hathaway reunited with Christopher Nolan to make the sci-fi epic Interstellar.

We don’t yet know any production or release dates for Eclipse Convergence, and doubtless anything firm will have to wait until after the current writers’ and actors’ strike. Once we know more, we’ll make sure you know.
