Get Ready To Watch An Anime About A Rooster Fighter

By Nina Phillips | Published

If you’re looking for a silly and fun anime to watch, Rooster Fighter might just be one worth waiting for. This silly-sounding story originally started as a manga where a rooster saves the world from demons. It was originally written in 2020 by Shu Sakuratani and features seven volumes as of July 2024.

Rooster Fighter is about a world recently plagued with demons. Not all are evil, but there are enough that humanity needs a hero. However, it’s not a fellow human who steps up to save the day this time. Instead, it’s a rooster named Keiji, who is on the hunt for The White Demon after it killed his sister.

During the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Rooster Fighter was going to get an anime adaptation.

The manga is a story that doesn’t have a lot of depth to it. However, it’s full of hilarious and action-heavy moments right off the bat that will draw in fans looking for something simple and amusing.

Keiji isn’t any normal rooster fighter, though. He’s a mutant with superhuman strength and intelligence, which makes him such a powerful foe against the demons running through Japan. Throughout the series, a few other chickens, as well as other animals, including a toucan and a turtle, are involved.

Here is the official synopsis, which is a much more fun way to describe Rooster Fighter: “Keiji is more than just an ordinary rooster—he’s humanity’s greatest defender! His opponents may be ten stories tall, but nothing is bigger than his stout heart and his fearsome battle cry—Kokekokko!”

In some other interesting news to do with Rooster Fighter, VIZ, who publishes and produces the manga, has also been said to have obtained merchandise rights for the series.

Despite its rather unusual storyline, the series is a hit. There are a few countries where it’s been rather popular, such as Mexico, Spain, and Argentina. This could be because many Spanish-speaking countries have a close tie with roosters and chickens, much more than other countries, and really appreciate the story with this unique main character.

During the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Rooster Fighter was going to get an anime adaptation. The series is to be produced by Studio Sanzigen (BanG Dream!) and Sola Entertainment (The God of High School). Daisuke Suzuki will be the director (009 Re:Cyborg).

After the anime adaptation was announced, the manga writer Sakuratani also shared the news, as well as his excitement about the fact Rooster Fighter was turning into an anime: “Ever since becoming a manga artist, my biggest goal was to have my work adapted into an anime. So, I can’t tell you how happy I am to see my dream come true! This is all thanks to my readers’ continued support and Hero’s and VIZ Media’s contributions. I extend my gratitude to all of you.”

The director also shared his excitement about the plot of Rooster Fighter, stating, “Fighter may be in the title, but I think you’ll still be surprised to see the intensity in all the hardcore battles. The giant demons that attack, and the powerful skills of the chickens that rise up to meet them in battle — it’s all presented beautifully in a way that only anime can communicate. Another highlight is the drama and passion of the unique personas — or should I say, the unique avian characters and other creatures that appear.”

When Rooster Fighter airs, it will be available in the United States on Adult Swim.

In addition to the announcement, the trailer was revealed as well. The trailer first aired during San Diego Comic-Con to an in-person audience. The Rooster Fighter trailer shows some examples of the impressive fighting scenes and the monsters Keiji deals with during his travels.

In some other interesting news to do with Rooster Fighter, VIZ, who publishes and produces the manga, has also been said to have obtained merchandise rights for the series. This means that there’s a good chance that fun merchandise for the series is in development and may be released sometime soon.

When Rooster Fighter airs, it will be available in the United States on Adult Swim. As for when it airs, that’s still to be revealed at a later date, as well as any other platforms it will air on besides Adult Swim. Since Sanzigen is also the team working on Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, Rooster Fighter might still be a way out, but it’s exciting news nonetheless.
