For a while there, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were one of Hollywood’s golden couples. While their relationship had formed under somewhat salacious circumstances, audiences can rarely resist the charms of two incredibly beautiful, talented, and successful people getting married, especially when their names form a decent portmanteau. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce was finalized in 2019, but like so many acrimonious separations, it seems things are not completely over. According to various reports, it is being alleged that Angelina Jolie may have at one point attempted to get Brad Pitt arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

It gets a little complicated here, so bear with us. Per Politico, it was reported in April that U.S. District Court Chief Judge Beryl Howell refused to seal a Freedom of Information Act by an anonymous woman, stating that anonymity was enough to protect the privacy of the plaintiff’s children. The anonymous woman (or “Jane Doe”) had invoked FOIA in order to find out why the FBI had closed an investigation into allegations that Jane Doe’s husband had “physically and verbally assaulted” her and their children during a private plane journey several years prior. Essentially, the FBI had closed the investigation without an arrest and explanation, and Jane Doe wanted to know why.

Per The Puck, it has been theorized that Jane Doe was Angelina Jolie alleging assault by Brad Pitt. The timeline matched up with a much-publicized altercation aboard a private plane, in which it was claimed that Brad Pitt had become very intoxicated. Accounts of the chaotic journey differ greatly between the legal representations of both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, but it is certain that the actress filed for divorce shortly thereafter. According to these reports, it seems there was some effort for Brad Pitt to be investigated and potentially arrested for his actions aboard the plane. However, that did not occur and if these claims are true, Angelina Jolie wants to know why.

Since their divorce in 2019, both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have continued in the public eye. Angelina Jolie starred in the sequel to her revisionist Disney villain film, Maleficient, alongside Michelle Pfeiffer, Elle Fanning, and Juno Temple. Last year, she also starred in one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most hotly debated films, Eternals; despite being directed by Academy Award-winner Chloe Zhoe, the film underwhelmed at the box office and is one of the lowest-rated MCU projects on Rotten Tomatoes.

After his divorce from Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt publically gave up alcohol (which also lent some credibility in the public eye to allegations of his behavior while drinking). He won an Academy Award for his performance in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and would star in the science fiction film Ad Astra. More recently, he appeared in a well-received cameo role in The Lost City alongside Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, followed by a lead in the ensemble action comedy film Bullet Train.
