Andy Serkis Set To Play One Of History’s Most Horrific Monsters
Andy Serkis has made his career playing demented and twisted characters like Gollum in both The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Supreme Leader Snoke in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. But, his latest role doesn’t involve any sort of CGI effects although he’ll still portray one of the biggest monsters of all time. The actor is reported to be joining the cast of Oren Moverman’s The Man with the Miraculous Hands, a film that will see Serkis star as Nazi official, Heinrich Himmler.
The Man With The Miraculous Hands
The Man with the Miraculous Hands is being billed as a WW2-centered psychological thriller, with Andy Serkis’ casting coming after the reveal that Woody Harrelson was tapped to star. The news comes just in time for the project to launch itself at the revered Cannes Film Festival which kicked off yesterday in France.
Woody Harrelson
Woody Harrelson will be playing the titular masseuse, Felix Kersten. The year is 1939 and Andy Serkis’ Heinrich Himmler is in poor health when his path crosses with Kersten’s. Known for his impressive abilities, the doctor was picked out especially to take care of Himmler during the beginning years of WWII when the SS leader was serving under Adolf Hitler as one of the main crafters of the Holocaust.
Kersten
Because of his closeness with the Nazi authoritarian, Kersten would ultimately find himself as a sounding board for Himmler’s dastardly planning and the masseuse soon realized that he may have the power to change the world for the better and put an end to the atrocities committed by the Nazi party.
Putting his life and limb on the line, Kersten used his influence on Himmler to push for a different course which likely saved thousands of lives.
Andy Serkis
As for other projects coming down the line for Andy Serkis, last year he did a wonderful job playing the villain in 2023’s Luther: The Fallen Sun. We’re expecting to hear news of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes star reprising his role as Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2.
As far as his career as a director is concerned, Serkis will next stand behind the camera for an animated adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, and he was just announced as both the director of the spinoff The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, as well as reprising the role of Gollum in the film.
More News To Come
No further details have been released about The Man with the Miraculous Hands, including when we can expect to see the movie in theaters and who will join the cast alongside Andy Serkis and Woody Harrelson. Stay tuned for more information on both the film and the iconic actors.
