Andrew Lincoln And Danai Gurira Reunite As Rick And Michonne, See The Exciting First Look
Andrew Lincoln And Danai Gurira Reunite As Rick And Michonne in leaked photos from the set of The Walking Dead: Summit.
The Walking Dead ended with its 11th season last November, and with it came the return of Rick Grimes. Played by Andrew Lincoln, Rick Grimes was the leading man when The Walking Dead debuted on AMC in 2010, but he exited the show in Season 9. A new set photo from Twitter user @DeadCityAMC shows Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira back in action as Rick and Michonne.
The behind-the-scenes photo is almost certainly from the set of The Walking Dead: Summit, the spin-off series led by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira. Little is known about the plot of Summit, other than that it will be an epic love story that tests Rick and Michonne’s relationship in grueling, unexpected ways.
When fans saw Andrew Lincoln in The Walking Dead series finale, he was at odds with the Civic Republic, far away from Danai Gurira, who was hellbent on finding Grimes. The latest set of photos from Summit confirms that she will succeed in that goal. What happens next, however, is being kept under wraps.
Summit began production in February. Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are expected to return to the small screen when the series debuts in 2024. But first, the world of The Walking Dead will expand with another spin-off series, Dead City.
Dead City is a six-episode journey that brings back original characters Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan, and Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The characters built a complex and contentious relationship in the original series, but in Dead City, Maggie will have to team up with Negan to rescue her kidnapped son, Hershel, from a decomposing New York City. Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are not expected to appear in Dead City.
Per TV Guide, Dead City is set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ on June 18, 2023. The series has been teased as a very different experience from The Walking Dead, getting characters out of the woods and into the concrete jungle.
Before AMC brings back Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, a spin-off starring fan favorite Norman Reedus will continue the adventures of Daryl Dixon. The series will bring Daryl to France, where he will attempt to piece together how he arrived there while sinking ever deeper into the complex forces at play in post-apocalyptic Europe.
Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira have begun work on Summit, but the future of the Walking Dead franchise has been shaky. Like every other network, streamer, and studio, AMC has been dealing with personnel changes and strategic shifts to accommodate the changing market. That has led to cost cutting, and some fans wondered if the planned Walking Dead spin-offs would meet an early grave.
For now, it seems AMC is going full steam ahead with its Walking Dead franchise. The network has already canceled The Walking Dead: World Beyond and will wrap up Fear the Walking Dead soon, making space for series led by some of the franchise’s biggest stars, like Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, and Norman Reedus.
The world of The Walking Dead is expanding after the conclusion of its mothership series. The franchise’s popularity has ebbed and flowed since 2010, but fans of the epic zombie tale seem ready to come out in hoards for the spin-offs. Time will tell if AMC’s big bet on The Walking Dead franchise will give the network life after the end of one of its most successful series.
