Fan reactions to Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man movies were mixed at best, but virtually everyone is in agreement that Garfield’s portrayal and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy were bright spots in both films. This undeniable chemistry made it much more devastating when Peter could not save Gwen Stacy from a deadly fall. According to The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s VFX supervisor Jerome Chen (via ScreenRant), Garfield prepared for this emotional scene by purposely not seeing Emma Stone for a week, telling her “When you come into that scene, you have to pretend like you are dead to me.”

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were in a real-life relationship while filming The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While actors can certainly get into character on their own, this extra attachment to his co-star made Peter’s grief in that scene much more intense and heartbreaking. According to Chen, Garfield was crying uncontrollably while filming the scene.

This is definitely a case where the romantic relationship between co-stars strengthens a movie. As mentioned, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s chemistry was undoubtedly one of the best parts of Marc Webb’s Spider-Man movies. It’s partially why so many fans love Garfield’s portrayal of the character to this day, and why they’ve wanted to see him come back for more.

While Andrew Garfield didn’t get to finish his story with a third Spider-Man movie, he got his redemption by coming back to help Tom Holland’s version of the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Garfield’s character also got some redemption of his own when he saved Zendaya’s MJ from suffering the same fate as Gwen Stacy. Garfield’s Peter Parker getting choked up after saving MJ was one of the best moments for his character in the film.

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man wasn’t the only character to find redemption in No Way Home, as the villains he faced off against were also brought back via multiverse shenanigans and changed for the better. Jamie Foxx returned as Electro and Rhys Ifans returned as the Lizard. The movie also saw Tobey Maguire return as Spider-Man along with Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, and Thomas Haden Church as Sandman.

Now that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire have officially made appearances as Spider-Man in the MCU, fans are hoping that they return for another Marvel movie in the future. The newest chapter of the MCU has been dubbed The Multiverse Saga, so the opportunity is definitely there. It seems likely that if they reprised the roles again, it would likely be in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars when Earth’s Greatest Heroes are going to need all the help they can get.

Of course, Andrew Garfield and Maguire could possibly show up in another Spider-Man movie, but there hasn’t even been one announced yet. Fortunately, Marvel and Disney have us covered with plenty of upcoming projects while we speculate about future character appearances. You can catch Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in theaters on November 11 and then tune in to Disney+ on November 25 for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
