Andrew Garfield Getting Amazing Spider-Man 3 Made? There’s Already A Story
While Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland were allowed to round out their trilogies as Peter Parker in their respective Spider-Man franchises, Andrew Garfield would never see the credits roll on The Amazing Spider-Man 3. The Under the Banner of Heaven star’s time as the web-shooting superhero was the least loved of the Marvel IP but, thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home, that might have shifted. According to the man behind the mask in the official No Way Home art book, Garfield said that his character’s heroic moments in the latest Spidey flick left him feeling “re-inspired” to go back to his universe and get back to business.
In a new art book for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew Garfield says appearing in the movie “re-inspired” him in regard to his version of Peter Parker.
Audiences will remember the emotional moment when Andrew Garfield’s Peter 3 saved Zendaya’s MJ from a deadly tumble off the Statue of Liberty during the film’s big battle. This catch completely shifted Peter 3’s mindset, Garfield reveals, as it allowed him to “make up for a terrible tragedy that he tried to avoid in his world.”
“If he hadn’t been in Peter 1’s world, then it’s possible MJ may have met the same fate as Gwen.”
-Andrew Garfield on the impact of the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home on his character
While we may have never seen how Andrew Garfield’s character dealt with the crippling loss of Gwen Stacy (Emma Roberts) in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, audiences caught a glimpse of the character’s grief and loss in No Way Home, making the moment that MJ is caught all the more purposeful for the character’s journey.
Pointing out how much Peter 3’s view changed following the events of No Way Home, Andrew Garfield said, “If he hadn’t been in Peter 1’s world, then it’s possible MJ may have met the same fate as Gwen,” adding that the character’s “presence” was filled with a “purpose” – something that’s surely not lost on Peter 3.
Andrew Garfield goes on to say that the next chapter in his Peter Parker’s story (whether that be in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or beyond) is that the young man will jump into life “incredibly invigorated” and be even more interested in the study of “the cosmos and the universe and string theory and multiple dimensionality.”
Andrew Garfield also teases that while The Amazing Spider-Man 3 could be another great thing to come from the massive box office and fan success that was created by No Way Home, he knows that his character’s “story never ends, whether we film it or not.” Nodding to the infinite multiverses now introduced in not only the latest Spider-Man feature but all throughout the MCU, he knows that Peter 3’s story is “happening in a universe somewhere… he’s definitely out there doing something.”
One of the most celebrated films to not only come from the Spider-Man IP but from the MCU and Sony as a whole, Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Tom Holland’s titular hero create a cross-dimensional portal that allowed both good and bad guys to hop through into his universe.
Reintroducing characters like Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman and Rhys Ifans’ Lizard, the movie didn’t hold back when it came to giving fans the nostalgic trip down memory lane they were hoping for. With the addition of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man’s of yesteryear, the dedicated fan base gave a rallying cry to see the latter finally receive the ending he deserves in The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
The Future Of Spider-Man
As of right now, Marvel hasn’t announced when fans can expect the next bit of Spider-Man action to come out. The studio has its hands full with other highly anticipated features including Deadpool 3 and Madame Web, but it has been noted that Tom Holland will likely don the Spidey suit and reprise his role in the future. As for Andrew Garfield and The Amazing Spider-Man 3, there’s always a chance that Sony will hear the cries of its following and give the character one more solo film.
