See Andrew Garfield’s Stunt Double Break Silence On Amazing Spider-Man 3 Slip
Andrew Garfield's stunt double finally speaks up!

Andrew Garfield’s stunt double from Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man series has spoken up about the rumors. Actor William Spencer doubled for Garfield in both Sony films and the recent blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home. As such, fans took him as a good source when he seemingly hinted at an upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 3 film. Sadly, Spencer has clarified (via Instagram) that he misspoke and is not aware of any forthcoming plans. That said, this would not be the first, second or maybe even third time someone has denied a Spider-Man rumor that turned out to be very true. You can see Spencer’s post below.
All in all, it has been a pretty good year for Spider-Man fans. Despite months of extremely unconvincing denials from Spider-Men Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, both ended up in the newest film. The MCU’s latest mega-blockbuster, Spider-Man: No Way Home is already demolishing the box-office. No Way Home is Sony Picture’s highest-grossing film ever, beating the last Tom Holland Spider-Man movie. The only other Sony film to gross over $1 billion at the box office (as No Way Home has) is the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall. Of course, none of this is surprising. No Way Home was hotly anticipated for months, with each confirmed returning actor shocking and delighting fans.
Spider-Man: No Way Home also served as a kind of redemption for Andrew Garfield. Although his outings as the iconic superhero were not flops, his Amazing Spider-Man series never hit quite the same. Tobey Maguire has been canonized as the original cinematic Spider-Man, while the MCU behemoth ensured Tom Holland as a star. Andrew Garfield landed somewhere in the middle. He was not quite as revered as Tobey Maguire, not as beloved as Tom Holland. And while the Amazing Spider-Man movies had their charms (lest we forget Paul Giamatti’s too brief turn as The Rhino), they did not make it to a third film as both OG Spidey Maguire and new Spider on the block Holland have.
That’s probably why Andrew Garfield’s turn as Peter Parker in No Way Home was so well received. Garfield played his version of Spider-Man as disillusioned and sad, and seeing him regain his joy made us all appreciate him a little bit more. He has had quite the 2021 so far, with critical praise for his starring role in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tick, Tick… Boom! and a satisfying return to the superhero tights. While William Spencer presumably was not trying to get fans’ hopes up by thanking a fan who congratulated him on “TASM3,” it’s easy to see why they might get the wrong impression and think it a confirmation.
Sadly, it seems that rumors about a new Amazing Spider-Man film starring Andrew Garfield are just that. Rumors! Sony Pictures seems hard at work with their Venom films and the upcoming Jared Leto-starring Morbius movie. So we may have seen the last of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. But who can say! Stranger things have happened in the Spider-Man film history. Just check out that Paul Giamatti clip again.
