Ana de Armas has taken on the life of Marilyn Monroe in the new biopic film, Blonde. There has been much criticism about Armas’s accent in the film, but that was quickly silenced by the Marilyn Monroe estate stating they fully accepted the actress in the role. Everyone can watch the film when it lands on Netflix on September 28th. Armas has poured her soul into the role, as she revealed in a new interview. She even claimed that she felt the ghost of Marilyn Monroe following her around as she portrayed her. According to Armas, “I truly believe that she was very close to us, she was with us… She was all I thought about, she was all I dreamed about, she was all I could talk about.”
We certainly love when an actor throws themselves fully into a role, and it sounds like Ana de Armas has done just that. However, we would rather not want to get scared of the potential haunting that could also occur. How does Armas know that the supposed ghost of Marilyn Monroe is not upset at her for the way she acts in the movie? We are joking and are more than excited to see how Armas does in the role, especially because she is portraying one of the most polarizing and iconic people in cinema history.
Blonde follows the turbulent life of Marilyn Monroe (Ana de Armas), as she traverses her wild personal life while trying to balance becoming a superstar. Joining Armas is Lucy DeVito, Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Julianna Nicholson, Sara Paxton, and many more. The film was written and directed by Andrew Dominik. Dominik famously directed Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and Killing Them Softly. The film is based on a novel of the same name that was written by Joyce Carol Oates. However, Marilyn Monroe is more fictionalized in the book, so we could be seeing some more dramatic happenings of the life that Monroe led.
Ana de Armas has grown into a quite renowned actress, especially these last five years. She has been invited into many blockbuster films, including a breakout role in the first Knives Out. She more recently starred alongside Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in an espionage film called The Gray Man. Blonde is her next starring feature. She will follow that up by reuniting with Evans and Adrien Brody on a romantic comedy called Ghosted. She is also rumored to be leading the John Wick spinoff film, Ballerina. Many wonder if Armas is the right person to portray Marilyn Monroe, but we argue she is the perfect person. Her acting resume speaks for itself, and she has only gotten better these past few years.
Blonde will officially debut on Netflix on September 28th. Ana de Armas may have been feeling the ghost of Marilyn Monroe, as she has taken that role to heights that no one saw coming. Armas looks spectacular in the trailers, and she might see some Oscar nominations for her performance. It may be too early to tell if she gets any nominations, but the reviews for the film are looking quite positive.
