Ana De Armas Is Done Starring In Hollywood’s Most Popular Genre
Ana de Armas is no longer looking for roles in action movies.
Ana de Armas is taking a break from action movies. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the actress revealed that Ballerina will be her last outing in the popular genre for a while. “I’m craving a wave of Blonde-type films,” the 34-year-old said, referencing her portrayal of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in the stunning, Academy Award-nominated biopic.
While the wave of action roles which followed her stint as a modern Bond girl in No Time to Die was fun, Ana de Armas is currently looking for projects that don’t feel like being on autopilot. “I want to work hard because it’s fun, it’s what I love to do, and it’s the only way to get better,” the actress explained. Now, she wants to work with different directors and do more character work.
“I have had the opportunity to meet directors that I want to work with,” the Cuban native added. Fortunately, the opportunities she has access to have evolved, which makes her excited for the future. Ana de Armas currently graces the cover of Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood Issue alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Selena Gomez, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Jonathan Majors.
Aaron Julia Garner, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Hoyeon, Keke Palmer, and Jeremy Allen White, complete the publication’s stars of today and tomorrow. Ana de Armas’ yearning for complex roles was probably sparked by the Oscar buzz she earned for her work in Blonde. She is nominated in the Best Actress category alongside Cate Blanchett, Andrea Riseborough, Michelle Williams, and Michelle Yeoh.
Written and directed by Andrew Dominik, the Ana de Armas-led movie is based on the 2000 novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. Although it’s billed as a biopic, Blonde tells a mostly fictionalized story of the life and career of Marilyn Monroe. The movie also features Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Xavier Samuel, and Julianne Nicholson.
Interestingly, Blonde received mixed reviews from critics, who described the graphic depiction of Monroe’s life as exploitative and unethical. Ana de Armas briefly touched on the role, telling Vanity Fair that she became “more protective” of herself since starring in the film. Meanwhile, fans can still catch the actress in her two upcoming action movies.
The first is Ghosted, a romantic action adventure for Apple TV+. Directed by Dexter Fletcher from a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the movie also features Chris Evans, Adrien Brody, Mike Moh, Amy Sedaris, Tim Blake Nelson, Tate Donovan, and Mustafa Shakir. The Ana de Armas film is set for release in April this year.
Ana de Armas is also set to lead the cast of Ballerina. Directed by Len Wiseman from a script by Shay Hatten, the story follows a young woman who uses her killer skills to avenge her deceased family. Set in Keanu Reeves’s popular John Wick franchise, these events take place between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.
Starring alongside Ana de Armas is Ian McShane, Keanu Reeves, Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno. Ballerina does not currently have a release date.
