1000-Lb Sisters Star Arrested At Zoo, A Biting Camel Is Accused
Amy Slaton Halterman, co-star of the TLC reality series 1,000-Lb Sisters, was arrested on multiple charges by authorities in Tennessee on Monday. In a press release from the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department, it was revealed that the reality show fixture was arrested after deputies dispatched to the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo made accusations that one of the camels in the drive-through zoo bit her. During their questioning of Halterman and her male companion Brian Lovvorn, deputies reported that they were “immediately overtaken” by odors from the couple’s vehicle that they believe were from controlled substances.
The Arrest
Amy Slaton Halterman and Brian Lovvorn were both arrested and charged with possession of both Schedule I and Schedule IV drugs. As there were minor children in the vehicle with them, Halterman and Lovvorn were additionally charged with two counts of child endangerment.
It’s been reported that the two children, whose names and ages have not been disclosed, are staying with family members.
Amy Slaton Halterman and Brian Lovvorn were released from jail quickly in lieu of posting a $10,000 bond.
The Bite
As for the supposed camel bite, Amy Slaton Halterman told reporters that she was treated by a local hospital for the injuries she maintains was caused by the zoo animal. But the bite itself is also in contention, as the park’s co-owner has disputed whether or not her injury was from the source she claims it to be.
An Innocent Camel
Claude Conley maintained that Amy Slaton Halterman’s injuries did not match those from a typical camel bite. Conley stated that as the alleged camel bite was only at the top of the arm, that the lack of a bite underneath from its bottom plate makes the reality star’s story suspicious.
“We don’t think the customers were in their right mind at the time,” he asserted.
The drugs the couple have been accused of possessing were marijuana and mushrooms.
Jimmy Kimmel
The Amy Slaton Halterman incident has also caught the attention of at least one late night talk show host. ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live saw its host taking jabs at the reality show star in his opening monologue Wednesday night.
Among other observations, Kimmel quipped that the amount of drugs in Halterman’s vehicle must have been substantial if law enforcement were able to pick up on the illicit substances’ odors while in the middle of a drive-through zoo.
