Amy Adams Was Actually In A Superman Series Long Before Playing Lois Lane In The DCU
Amy Adams had a role in the series Smallville for one episode
Though she’s gone on to have one of the more lauded acting careers around, Amy Adams got her start with smaller roles when first hitting the scene. Sure, now many fans will know her for the role of Lois Lane in the most recent Superman and DC Justice League movies, but she had on-screen run-ins with Clark Kent long before this. That’s because Amy Adams actually appeared in Smallville early in her career.
In Smallville, Amy Adams took on the role of Jodi Melville, a seemingly ordinary high school student whose life takes a bizarre turn in the eighth episode of the first season, “Craving,” which originally aired on November 29, 2001.
At first glance, Jodi appears to be struggling with typical teenage issues, but her unique condition sets her apart from her peers.
In the episode “Craving,” Jodi’s uncontrollable appetite becomes the central focus of the storyline. After consuming meteor rock-infected vegetables, she develops an extraordinary ability to absorb fat from people’s bodies upon physical contact.
In the Smallville episode “Craving” Amy Adams played Jodi Nelson who has the power to absorb fat from people’s bodies.
This newfound power not only puts her own life in jeopardy but also becomes a significant concern for others around her. Her condition brings attention to the unusual occurrences happening in the small town of Smallville, where meteor-infected individuals often display unpredictable and extraordinary abilities.
While her appearance in the series was relatively short-lived, Adams’ talent left a lasting impression, paving the way for her future success in the entertainment industry. From this early role to her later prominent roles in movies and other television shows.
And, of course, she would parlay some of this into a role at the Daily Planet later on. Amy Adams played the character Lois Lane in DC‘s Man of Steel and Justice League.
Amy Adams Was Lois Lane In The DC Universe
In Man of Steel, she portrayed the iconic investigative journalist and one of Superman‘s most well-known love interests. Throughout the film, she unravels the mystery behind the mysterious superhero known as Superman, who is actually the alien Kal-El, from the planet Krypton, living on Earth as Clark Kent. Amy Adams as Lois becomes an integral part of Superman’s journey, providing insight, support, and a romantic connection.
In Justice League, the follow-up film to Man of Steel, Amy Adams reprised her role as Lois Lane. After the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is a film between Man of Steel and Justice League, Lois is still grappling with the loss of Superman, who sacrificed himself to defeat the villain Doomsday.
In Justice League, Lois plays a crucial role in motivating the team to come together and face the impending threat of Steppenwolf and his Parademon army. Her emotional connection to Superman and her understanding of his importance to humanity play a significant part in the plot. Heck, she’s the one who gets Henry Cavill’s Superman to not actually kill the rest of the Justice League.
Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane in Superman Legacy and Amy Adams is not returning to the DC Universe
With James Gunn taking over the DC Universe now and already letting on a myriad of television and movie options going forward, it doesn’t look like Amy Adams will be reprising the Lois Lane (or Jodi Melville) role anytime soon.
In fact, the next story for our favorite favorite Kryptonian will be Superman Legacy and the biggest roles has already been cast. Things are going to start trending younger here with David Corenswet taking over the Kal-El/ Clark Kent Role and Rachel Brosnahan stepping in as Lois Lane.
DC is going full reset here and the Justice League faces of the past are being slowly (and sometimes quickly) removed from the story. That’s looking like the end of that.
Upcoming Work
As for Amy Adams moving forward, well, no DC no problem. She’s slated to be in a number of different films, all currently in pre-production. There’s The Invite, Average Height, Average Build, and Kings of America. Plus, even sooner there will be Nightbitch which will be a werewolf movie that sees a stay-at-home mom start to howl at the moon when she stops her art career. Yup, you read that right.
In the meantime, there’s always time to catch up with Amy Adams in her DC roles with both Smallville, Man of Steel, and Justice League all available to stream on Max.
