When it comes to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, trouble behind the scenes is becoming a regular occurrence, and lately, actress Amber Heard has been at the forefront. A couple of months back, rumors began to surface that the star, who portrays Mera in the forthcoming sequel, was being replaced by Games of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke. Those claims originated with popular and frequently reliable YouTube personality Syl Abdul, who is now serving up some evidence to support his allegations after observing that Amber Heard is seemingly missing from Aquaman 2 reshoots.

According to Abdul, just about everybody but Amber Heard is back on the set of Aquaman 2 for reshoots. He described the new scenes featuring Mera, however, he was unable to determine the identity of the actress portraying the character during the latest round of filming. Furthermore, he believes the identity of said actress is being kept a secret by Warner Bros. Discovery.

Typically, claims like the one’s Abdul tends to make should be taken with a grain of salt, however, the YouTube star has been right on the money with his scoops in the past. For instance, back in July, his report that Ben Affleck would reprise his version of Batman in the Aquaman sequel turned out to be one hundred percent accurate. Additionally, he leaked The Flash was undergoing reshoots as well as the cancelation of the Supergirl movie, which have both since been confirmed, and considering Amber Heard has been on the wrong side of the press with her ongoing courtroom drama with her ex-husband Johnny Depp for several months now, it’s not hard to imagine Warner Bros. Discovery would want to erase her from Aquaman 2.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last six months, Amber Heard was sued by her ex-husband Johnny Depp for $50 million for defamation over a December 2018 op-ed published in The Washington Post, and the case made national headlines. Back in June, a jury found the actress had indeed defamed the Pirates of the Caribbean star, but before that verdict was reached, Heard made claims that her Aquaman 2 role was significantly reduced. Since then, numerous reports have surfaced alleging the actresses’ role has been cut entirely, but so far, none of them have been confirmed.

Although her previous relationship with Johnny Depp and the on-going courtroom drama that followed certainly thrust her further into the spotlight, Amber Heard was already making a name for herself. In addition to portraying Mera in DC’s superhero flick Aquaman, she’s had prominent roles in Never Back Down, The Stepfather, and Drive Angry. Whether she ends up making an appearance in Aquaman 2 or having her role cut entirely remains to be seen.

Jason Mamoa, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Amber Heard are all set to return in Aquaman 2. James Wan will once again direct from a script by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. As of now, the hotly anticipated sequel is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 25th, 2023 but given Warner Bros. Discovery’s frequent shuffling of release dates when it comes to their DCEU flicks, we’re not holding our breath.
