Amber Heard And Jared Leto Will Lead Zack Snyder’s Justice League 2
Could Amber Heard and Jared Leto take top billing in Justice League 2? Apparently that will be the case if Zack Snyder rolls out a sequel

Amber Heard and Jared Leto wouldn’t have seemed like two of the most likely folks to lead a superhero team-up film. But these are weird and wacky days in Hollywood, especially around the comic book movie universe and really anything is possible. It appears that Zack Snyder, were he to get his wish to get going on Justice League 2, would have those two with the film’s top billing. They aren’t the first two I’d pick to head up a new group of Justice League folks, but hey, anything can happen I suppose.
This latest Amber Heard and Jared Leto rumor comes as we lead into the event that will be Zack Snyder’s Justice League premiering on HBO Max later this month. Whenever there is something this big in the works it always happens that rumors get out about what’s planned next. In the comic book movie genre, there’s always another story to be told and another movie to be planned.
But in this case, Snyder looking ahead to an expanded role for both Jared Leto as the Joker and Amber Heard as Queen Mera is likely nothing more than a pipe dream. This is probably the director going a little pie in the sky without having any real intention of putting out a sequel. After all, these two characters don’t exactly scream Justice League.
If Justice League 2 were to actually happen, apparently Snyder wanted Jared Leto and Amber Heard to be part of the Knightmare timeline and story arc that will come into play more in this next movie. In this timeline, Lois Lane has died and Superman has taken control of the planet as something of a tyrant. He goes full evil and this plays out in those desert scenes we saw Batman in during the original movie. They will have a bigger focus in Snyder’s version and the Joker has become a warlord in this vision of the future.
It’s unclear how Snyder would plan to expand the role Amber Heard has as Queen Mera in another story. But considering his vision around these movies is huge, there are always ways to bring along different characters in the storylines. Just that the director sees these two as so central to further stories in the universe is interesting in and among itself. Also, it isn’t even totally confirmed that Amber Head is coming back for Aquaman 2 yet. But such is the nature of massive franchise universes like the one operating for DC right now. There are always lots of characters and talent to juggle.
All of this talk around Amber Heard and Jared Leto being featured prominently in Justice League 2 is putting the cart significantly before the horse though. For starters, the Zack Snyder version hasn’t even hit screens yet and Warner Bros is likely sitting with bated breath about the overall reception. It’s also increasingly unlikely we get to a sequel anyway.
For starters, while Jared Leto and Amber Heard are legit stars, are they enough to carry a franchise? Heck, it looks like DC is moving on from Henry Cavill in the Superman role and even Snyder has been non-committal around his energy for a follow-up film. Plus, considering how much the studio has put into the two versions of the same movie, it’s unlikely they are champing at the bit to throw down another bulk of cash for the same group to fight again. Will we get these two headlining a sequel? Probably not. But it does say something that Snyder thinks they might be the future of the franchise going forward.
