Mickey Rourke recently appeared for an interview on the British TV show Piers Morgan Uncensored and the actor definitely had some controversial takes on Hollywood’s biggest stars. He briefly talks about Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, mentioning how doing the same role for 35 years doesn’t impress him. He also had some choice words about the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial, saying that “I know Johnny for many years, but I don’t really know him intimately,” and “I felt bad for somebody that is trying to get chopped down by some gold digger, you know?” Rourke led up to the gold-digger statement by saying that he had been blamed for something he didn’t do before, leading to him losing out on roles and jobs.

Clearly, Rourke was feeling more sympathetic toward Johnny Depp than Amber Heard in this situation. Johnny Depp did lose out on several major franchise roles in the wake of his controversy with his ex-wife, being fired from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and the Fantastic Beasts franchise. It sounds like Rourke was feeling like he was in a similar situation to Depp.

If you somehow missed the news for the past few months, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp had a very public trial that ended with the court heavily siding with Depp, awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, which was subsequently changed to $350,000 in punitive damages due to state punitive damage limits. The case was a result of Depp suing Heard for defamation to the tune of $50 million. The defamation suit was in reference to a 2018 op-ed Heard wrote where she detailed being a victim of domestic abuse, without explicitly naming her abuser. In response to Depp’s suit, Heard countersued for $100 million. Heard was awarded $2 million in damages.

Since the trial has ended, Amber Heard has made attempts to request a new trial to overturn the verdict. Depp’s lawyers recently responded to the requests, calling them “outlandish.” While Heard isn’t moving on from the trial right now, both seem to be moving on with their careers. Depp has rejoined guitarist Jeff Beck on tour and the two are about to release a collaborative album together. The album features a number of covers and two original songs by Depp, one of which may or may not reference Heard. Depp is also gearing up to film La Favorite, which will be his first big role since his back-and-forth with Heard began. La Favorite will tell the story of  Madame du Barry, Louis XV’s famous mistress. Depp will be playing Louis XV and Maiwenn plays du Barry, along with directing the film. The film will likely be an interesting challenge for Depp, as it will be shot entirely in French. La Favorite doesn’t have a release date yet, but it should start filming in Paris this summer.

Amber Heard can be seen next in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, reprising her role from the sequel. James Wan directs and Jason Mamoa, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Temura Morrison, Willem Dafoe, and Yahya Abdul Mateen II also star. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to come out in March of 2023.
