See The Major Amber Heard Change DC Made For Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom
Last year, Amber Heard went head to head with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, in the defamation suit seen around the world. After losing the battle in court, Heard left Hollywood to live a quiet (and hopefully drama-free) life abroad, leaving fans to wonder what would become of her character in the upcoming Aquaman sequel. As it turns out, Heard will appear as Mera in The Lost Kingdom, though fans on X recently noticed at least one modification to her character via an outfit change replicated on her action figure.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom merchandise proves Amber Heard is still a big part of the movie, but her Mera costume has been updated.
As seen in the post above, Amber Heard’s Mera has received an update since her once multi-colored scaly suit is now a singularly blue unitard with silver accents on her forearms.
While Amber Heard’s attire in the first film featured color variations in the scales, this new design opts for a simpler, monochromatic look. However, it’s unclear if this is actually an outfit update or if the change in color is an effect of simplifying the costume for the toy.
As summer comes to a close, we inch closer to the release date of The Lost Kingdom. And yet, marketing for the DC movie has been incredibly scarce. In fact, the sequel holds the record for the shortest gap between the release of a film’s first trailer and its theatrical debut, with Amber Heard’s action figure being one of the only modes of promotion the marketing team has released.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Amber Heard’s involvement, fans still hold hope for a remarkable cinematic experience.
Aside from this merchandise, another promotional image of Amber Heard’s Mera was spotted on a variant cover for the comic Birds of Prey #4. Strangely, in the comic, Mera wore a similar outfit to her 2018 appearance in Aquaman, leaving fans wondering exactly what her character will look like in the sequel.
For a while, there was wonder if Amber Heard would appear in the sequel at all. The actress faced intense scrutiny and controversy during her highly publicized defamation suit against Depp, which she ultimately lost. Many wondered if the DCEU would reduce her screentime to next to nil or end up recasting her altogether; however, it seems Heard will indeed return as Mera at least one more time.
In addition to Amber Heard’s Mera update, the merchandise also unveiled new figures of Aquaman, portrayed by Jason Momoa. The first figure features the iconic, classic colors of the Justice League member, while the second showcases his all-black outfit, hinting at intriguing costume changes during The Lost Kingdom.

Despite the Amber Heard controversy, fans are looking forward to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, there are concerns about its potential reception, given the recent struggles of the DCEU. Warner Bros. Discovery highly publicized The Flash, which ended up being a major commercial setback for the studio — perhaps due to controversy surrounding the star Ezra Miller — and critics wonder if Aquaman 2 will receive a similar fate.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Amber Heard’s involvement, fans still hold hope for a remarkable cinematic experience. Perhaps the film can defy expectations and deliver a Christmas miracle when it hits theaters on December 20. Until then, audiences can only speculate and eagerly await further revelations about the underwater adventure that awaits them.
