Alison Brie Is Evil-Lyn In He-Man Live-Action Reboot

By Jacob VanGundy | Published

Alison Brie has been cast as the villain Evil-Lyn in the upcoming Masters of the Universe being made by Amazon MGM Studios. The fan-favorite actress playing one of the franchise’s classic villains is exciting news. Her addition also builds up the movie’s cast, which looks like it could turn into a great ensemble.

Evil-Lyn

Evil-Lyn has a long history in the Masters of the Universe world as one of Skeletors most powerful allies. An evil sorceress, she appeared regularly in the 1983 animated show and, of course, the Mattel toy line. With a talented actress like Alison Brie playing the character, she could easily steal the show.

Brie’s Other Work

As an actress Alison Brie is best known for her roles in TV comedies, but she’s shown some solid range. She became a household name playing Annie Edison in Community and starred in the Netflix wrestling dramedy GLOW. That said, Evil-Lyn will be far from her first movie role, having starred in films like Somebody I Used to Know, Horse Girl, and The Rental.

The Cast

Alongside Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, the movie has put together an impressive cast that could elevate the film to more than simple nostalgia bait. With Nicholas Galitzine playing He-Man and Camila Mendes as the royal bodyguard Teela, the film already has some real star power.

Of course, there are still several roles that need to be filled like the franchise’s most iconic villain, Skeletor, leaving room for even more stars.

Details about Masters of the Universe are scant, with the film’s plot and visual style still being mysteries. While the casting of stars like Camila Mendes and Alison Brie is the most exciting news about the movie, it also has an interesting director, Travis Knight.

His animated debut Kubo and the Two Strings was a hit and he was an accomplished animator before that, making him an interesting choice to adapt a franchise rooted in animation.

Masters Of The Universe

The Masters of the Universe franchise has spanned generations with the toy line being adapted into multiple animated series, video games, and an ill-fated 1987 live-action movie. While the original 1983 animated series and more recent She-Ra and the Princesses of Power were hits, the previous attempt at a live-action adaptation was a major flop.

The casting of an A-list actress as Evil-Lyn is a good sign that the modern reboot is trying to avoid ending up like its Dolph Lundgren staring predecessor.

Part Of The Trend Barbie Started

Masters of the Universe may also be part of a trend started by Barbie of toy line adaptations. That movie also featured an all-star cast that included well-known celebrities like Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and America Ferrera.

Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn may be an attempt to make a side character more noteworthy like Barbie did by casting Michael Cera as Allan.

While fans of the 80s He-Man series or Netflix’s She-Ra were likely already paying attention to Masters of the Universe the casting of Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn is a great way to get the broader audience interested in the movie.

The movie is currently set to come out on June 5th, 2026 but the phenomenal cast is already starting to build hype. Hopefully, the final product lives up to its great cast.
