Alien Series Finally Shuts Down And Fans Are Not Happy
As film productions shut down all over the United States in the wake of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the new Alien TV series is no different. Filming for the new show started on July 19 in Bangkok, but the cast were all sent home last Friday due to the strike, according to Deadline. There is no telling when production will pick back up, and fans are not happy about it.
The Alien television series started filming in Thailand with no SAG-AFTRA members, but now it’s shut down until the strike is over.
Even though American actors cannot work on the new series, this does not stop the rest of the Alien crew from working on the sets in Thailand. Once the strike is over (which will hopefully be soon), the cast will be able to jump back into production.
Several of the Alien cast are Equity members who are affiliated with the British trade union, which means that they can technically continue working on the production. They were all given a warning not to support their American colleagues by walking out because it would be a breach of contract.
Despite the negative news, it does come with a small silver lining; that Kit Young has officially joined the cast of Season One. In the new Alien TV series, he will play the role of Tootles, though not much is known about this character.
The plot of the Alien television series is unknown, other than it is a prequel and set on Earth.
The young actor is best known for his role as Jasper Fahey in Shadow and Bone, a Netflix fantasy TV series. He also starred in the TV series The School for Good and Evil alongside Cate Blanchett, and he starred in the 2022 horror The Origin. If Shadow and Bone is renewed for a third season, then it should not impact Kit Young’s work on the new Alien TV series.
A few other members of the Alien cast have been revealed, with American actress Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling) at the forefront. While we are unsure who she is playing in the new TV show, we do know that Alex Lawther will play a soldier named CJ, Samuel Blenkin will play a CEO named Boy Kavalier, Essie Davis will play Dame Silvia, and Adarsh Gourav will play Slightly.
The creative minds behind the new series have not shared much information about the premise of Alien. So far, we understand that it will be a prequel to the Alien film franchise, taking place 70 years before Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) ever boarded the derelict spacecraft. The new series will also take place on Earth, which is a first for the outer space franchise.
Kit Young, the star of Shadow and Bone, has joined the Alien television series in an undisclosed role.
While Ridley Scott has joined the production as executive producer, the idea for the new TV show comes from Noah Hawley. The screenwriter is best known for creating and writing the Fargo TV series, in addition to directing a few episodes. Throughout his career, he has won an Emmy, Golden Globe, PEN, Critics’ Choice, and Peabody Award, so we can expect great things to come from the new Alien TV series whenever it airs.
Once the strike ends and production wraps, fans can expect to watch Alien on FX on Hulu, but there is no estimated release date at this time.
