Collider reports that the long-awaited Alien: Romulus has wrapped production, and details about the highly anticipated project are slowly emerging. Though the plot of the upcoming Alien film is very much under wraps, we do know that the Fede Álvarez directed film finished its principal photography on July 3, and is slated for an August 16, 2024 release on Hulu. Alien: Romulus will mark the seventh mainline installment of the Alien franchise, but will be the ninth overall film if you factor in the Alien vs. Predator films.

Alien: Romulus has been in the works for a couple of years, but many aspects of the production have been kept secret up to this point. What we do know so far about Romulus is that it will serve as a standalone film, and will not be related to the prequel narrative that Ridley Scott has been working on (Prometheus, Alien: Covenant), or any of the other preceding Alien films.

It’s crazy to think that after over 40 years, the Alien franchise is still going strong, and is ready to win over an entire new generation of fans.

In other words, we can expect an injection of fresh perspective with this new installment, but we could reasonably assume that Álvarez’s narrative will be at least somewhat familiar with the Alien lore, considering it’s a Scott Free Production (founded by Ridley Scott).

Scott Free Productions and 20th Century Studios have partnered to produce Alien: Romulus, and we are just now finding out who will be starring in the upcoming film. Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim: Uprising), Isabela Merced (100 Things to Do Before High School), David Jonsson (Rye Lane), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (The Batman), and Aileen Wu (Closing Doors) will appear in Romulus. However, their respective roles are currently undisclosed.

The upcoming Hulu Alien series is currently in active pre-production, Noah Hawley (Fargo) is functioning as showrunner, and Ridley Scott himself will be involved as an executive producer for the series.

As Romulus enters its post-production and promotional phases, we can only hope that more significant details will emerge in the coming weeks and months.

If the confirmation of Alien: Romulus isn’t enough excitement for you, then you’ll be pleased to know that an Alien television series is also currently in the works. The upcoming Hulu Alien series is currently in active pre-production, Noah Hawley (Fargo) is functioning as showrunner, and Ridley Scott himself will be involved as an executive producer for the series.

Alien: Romulus has wrapped production, and is scheduled to hit theaters next August.

It has been reported that the series was originally slated for a 2022 production run, but was delayed until 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though we haven’t yet been clued into the story line for Alien: Romulus, we do know that the TV series will be set on Earth in the near future, meaning that we won’t be following a plot centered on Ellen Ripley because the timeline wouldn’t make sense.

But seeing as that 2023 and 2024 are going to be huge years for the Alien franchise, it’s safe to say that we at the very least haven’t seen the last of the Xenomorphs.

It’s crazy to think that after over 40 years, the Alien franchise is still going strong, and is ready to win over an entire new generation of fans. Production for Alien: Romulus has officially wrapped, so now all we have to do is wait for it.
