We finally know the full official title for the upcoming Alien TV series. Showrunner Noah Hawley is in charge of the FX-produced Alien: Earth TV series that just completed its first season of production and will be ready for streaming when FX head John Langraf determines the best time for it to debut.

Noah Hawley

Ridley Scott serves as an executive producer of the latest iteration of the Alien story, and Hawley has plenty of success under his belt to ensure it will be a winner.

Hawley also is the showrunner for the popular Fargo TV series that appears on FX and has earned loyal fans. He recently told Variety he’s having fun with the post-production work on Alien: Earth, which is a prequel to the Alien story that starred Sigourney Weaver as Warrant Officer Ripley.

The Cast

The newest iteration of the Alien saga boasts an impressive cast that includes Timothy Olyphant, Sydney Chandler, and Essie Davis. Langraf wants at least two seasons worth of Alien: Earth filmed and canned for eventual airing before Hawley switches his focus back to Fargo for a sixth season of that popular FX show.

Given the amount of fun Hawley says he’s having with the first season nearly ready, odds are preparing a second season will be equally enjoyable for the esteemed showrunner.

A Prequel

If the first two seasons fare well, FX will have good reason invest in more of them with Hawley serving as the chief creator and visionary. Alien: Earth takes place 30 years before the original film.

Chandler plays the lead character, Wendy, who has the mind of a child trapped in an adult body. Olyphant plays Kirsh, who is Wendy’s synth trainer and mentor, while Davis appears as Dame Silvia and Alex Lawther plays a soldier named C.J.

Delays

The project first was announced in 2018, and filming was to begin in 2022 but was postponed when the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. Production got underway a year later, but the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike also put a stop to it.

With the pandemic over and the strike settled, Hawley finally was able to get the first season on film and into the editing room. Soon, it will be ready for its debut on FX.

Alien: Earth Will Hopefully Debut Next Year

Hawley expects the first season of Alien: Earth to debut during the first six months of 2025. With less than a year to wait, Alien fans are sure to pay close attention and tune in with all of the subscription levels available on FX making it a virtual certainty that anyone who wants to watch it can do so.

With Ridley Scott and Hawley teaming up as executive producers, it’s certain to be a hit that FX likely would continue with more seasons coming.
