Alicia Silverstone is about to head into some murky waters for her next film. She'll be swimming with and fighting off sharks from every angle

Get excited, because Alicia Silverstone is in over her head against some killer sharks. Her latest film, titled The Requin, pits her and on-screen lover James Tupper against circling Great White sharks after a tropical storm mortally wounds the husband and leaves the shark-killing to the wife. It sounds like a nice spin on the “shark attack” sub-genre of action/horror, and it will be fun to see how Silverstone fares against some seriously bloodthirsty sea beasts. Spoiler alert: She will be great. We are more worried about the sharks.
Now, to get audiences pumped for Alicia Silverstone’s terrifying new shark-centric feature, Deadline has shared a first-look image from The Requin, which is currently scheduled to be released in June 2021. Here’s the first official still from a film we didn’t know we needed:
The above image doesn’t show or tell us much, but it isn’t supposed to. It’s just supposed to pique our interest. Not much is known about the movie aside from the fact that Alicia Silverstone will be playing the main character, with Tupper backing her up in a role best described as “fatally injured, basically useless husband.” Yeah, this sounds like it is going to be awesome.
It will be interesting to see Alicia Silverstone in this role, mainly because it is a pretty dramatic deviation from the kinds of parts she usually plays. Will she be able to sell us on an almost-widowed wife even as she kicks some shark butt? It is far too early to tell, but given the fact that she does indeed have some pretty crazy range, our money is on her kicking butt, killing sharks, and saving her ostensibly doomed onscreen hubby.
In addition to her respective roles as Cher Horowitz in Clueless (and hopefully its wished-for sequel) and Batgirl in the ill-fated (but oddly fun) Batman and Robin, Alicia Silverstone has also recently appeared in Bad Therapy, Valley Girl, and Sister of the Groom. Her filmography also includes Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Global Heresy, Space Dogs: Adventure to the Moon, Angels in Stardust, Excess Baggage, True Crime, and The Babysitter, and countless others.
As you can see, Alicia Silverstone has been in quite a bit, but even today, over two decades since its release, her turn as Cher Horowitz in Clueless still stands as her biggest and best role. The film is one of the best, most heartfelt comedies the ’90s ever gave us, and it actually gets substantially better with each rewatch.
So, if you are a big fan of Alicia Silverstone’s work—or even if you just casually enjoy her many, many roles—, be sure to revisit any of the aforementioned movies. Especially Clueless. That movie really does not ever get old. Or, if you have been wanting something a bit newer and want to skimp some of her campier performances, you can wait until The Requin hits theaters in June of this year. Stay tuned! We will probably be getting a trailer fairly soon, and you can bet that you can find it here as soon as it hits the internet!
