Alicia Silverstone Back As Cher From Clueless, See The Footage
Alicia Silverstone is back as Cher from Clueless for a new Super Bowl commercial.
With reboots jumping out from every nook and cranny these days, fans of the classic Alicia Silverstone-led 1995 comedy Clueless have been wondering what it would take for the actress to step back into the role of the uber-popular girl Cher. And while it may not be exactly what we asked for, thanks to Rakuten we were able to catch the Blast from the Past actress back in the iconic plaid yellow outfit of her valley girl character for a whole 15 seconds. In a setup for a Super Bowl commercial, which you can see below, the online shopping site uses the legendary character to tease what’s to come on a larger scale on game day.
While Supergrass’s “We’re Alright” plays in the background, we see Alicia Silverstone’s Cher in full Clueless costume strutting through a classroom. With well-dressed students seated at their desks, Cher walks in between the rows carrying several large shopping bags. When she gets to the front, she looks at the camera and says “Don’t bug…Your girl is back” before the Rakuten commercial cuts out and teases that there’s more to come when the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles on February 12.
For those who may have missed out on this bit of quite frankly must-watch ‘90s cinema, Alicia Silverstone and Brittany Murphy led a star-studded ensemble in one of the most quotable films of all time, Clueless. A movie centered around the most stuck-up and clueless girl in high school, the film follows Silverstone’s Cher, an extremely popular girl with a penchant for playing matchmaker with her peers. Spotting a fresh challenge in nerdy and unpopular newcomer Tai (Murphy), Cher sets out to revamp Tai’s look and attitude, hoping to mold her into another member of her high-fashioned inner circle.
Through it all, Cher is teased and brought down to reality by her sarcastic and witty ex-stepbrother (Paul Rudd) who finally makes her see the truth about her unkind ways, and in turn, Cher begins to develop feelings for him. Sure, when you put it like that, the whole ex-step family connection part of their romance makes it a little bit weird, but we assure you, the film is still a classic. And did you catch that Paul Rudd also stars opposite Brittany Murphy and Alicia Silverstone in Clueless?
The rest of the ensemble cast is made up of more notable names including Donald Faison (Scrubs), Stacey Dash (Moving), Elisa Donovan (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Jeremy Sisto (Six Feet Under), Breckin Meyer (Road Trip), Dan Hedaya (True Confessions), and Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride). For a lot of the main cast including Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd, Clueless would help launch their careers and push them further into stardom. So really, we have Clueless to thank for the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania because we just can’t imagine another Scott Lang.
As for Alicia Silverstone, the Clueless star is still enjoying an illustrious career in the entertainment biz, as well as a life at home with her son. Along with her brief but genius reprisal of Cher in the upcoming Rakuten commercial, fans can expect to soon catch Silverstone in Grant Singer’s crime-thriller Reptile and Tunnels.
