See Alfred Hitchcock Movies Reimagined In Hilarious Fashion
Alfred Hitchcock's classic films were given comedic posters thanks to a skilled fan artist, and Conan O'Brien.
Some people can make anything funny. In a recent episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Conan and guest Bill Hader renamed classic Alfred Hitchcock films with silly new titles. Now the official Team Coco Instagram account has shared fan art that applies those wacky titles to movie posters, shedding a comedic light on some of cinema’s most suspenseful films.
Team Coco tagged the artist in the post, a Hollywood creature creator named Ted Haines. The artist is primarily a foam fabricator who goes by the moniker “the foam fabber.” Haines took inspiration from classic Alfred Hitchcock posters and reimagined them with Hader and O’Brien’s goofy titles.
The series begins with Dizzy Movie, a spoof on Hitchcock’s masterpiece Vertigo. The poster draws from the color palette and lettering of designer Saul Bass, who worked on many posters and title sequences for Alfred Hitchcock films. Instead of the shape of a man falling into a spiral, a line drawing of a cross-eyed Jimmy Stewart is front and center.
Next is Birdie Movie, a riff on The Birds. The poster features a fictitious quote by Alfred Hitchcock stating, “It could be the most birds in a motion picture I have ever made!”
Then there is Pshower, a spoof of one of the most famous scenes in film history, the shower murder from Psycho. Of every film Alfred Hitchcock made (and there were a lot), Psycho may have left the greatest mark on pop culture. This poster strips the film of its murder and mystery to focus on the part that really matters: the shower.
Finally, James Stewart stars in Peek a Boo Movie, a joke about how creepy Stewart’s character is in the Alfred Hitchcock classic Rear Window. The poster features an illustration of Stewart, who has traded in his scowl for a smile as he spies on his neighbors with a telephoto lens.
While the film community at large reveres Alfred Hitchcock, Bill Hader, and Conan O’Brien had no problem poking fun at the filmmaker’s most acclaimed works, the pair are comedy legends, but Hader has recently taken a turn into directing.
The Saturday Night Live alum helmed several episodes of the HBO series Barry, in which he also starred as the title character for four seasons. The show recently aired its series finale, cementing Hader as not only a staple in comedy but a dramatic powerhouse with many more stories to tell.
Bill Hader is looking to follow in the footsteps of Alfred Hitchcock by making a leap to directing movies. The filmmaker has not revealed what that project will be or what genre it will fall in. It will be another unique blend of dark humor and compelling drama if it is anything like Barry.
Bill Hader directed the entirety of Barry’s fourth season. Though the season received the lowest marks of the series, it still scored high, with a 95 percent rating from critics and 81 percent rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
Alfred Hitchcock is still regarded as the master of suspense, and his influence on the thriller genre can still be felt today. Though many of his films deal with dark and disturbing subject matter, Hitchcock was a filmmaker with a sense of humor. Now, thanks to Bill Hader, Conan O’Brien, and Ted Haines, his posters have one, too.
