Alec Baldwin Reality Show Actually Happening
Alec Baldwin is getting his own reality show. No seriously. Someone at TLC apparently thinks Baldwin and his wife Hilaria running around after their brood of seven is must-see TV. Who is this show for, exactly?
An Accomplished But Controversial Figure
Alec Baldwin is an accomplished actor with many iconic roles to his credit. No one is taking that away from him. But he’s also a controversial figure with many questionable deeds in his past.
Not the least of which involves the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust. Given that Alec Baldwin is still facing legal entanglements related to the case, is a reality show really the best look for him right now? It’s just hard for us to wrap our heads around who, at this moment in 2024, actually wants to watch Alec and Hilaria play house.
Polarizing Presidential Impersonations
Even before the Rust incident, half of the country—the red half—started calling for Baldwin’s head on a platter due to his unflattering Donald Trump impressions on SNL. That means roughly half of the potential audience for an Alec Baldwin reality show is already against it. Maybe more.
It’s not exactly a political statement to say that the majority of Trump supporters are close to if not past, retirement age. Guess what demographic watches the most cable television? Conservatives are nothing if not loyal, and we can already predict that the red side of the political aisle won’t be tuning in for Alec Baldwin’s new reality show when it premieres next year.
The Rust Incident
You might think Alec Baldwin would have more potential reality show fans on the anti-Trump side, but most people on the left don’t want him either. For starters, whether he was directly responsible or not, Alec was involved in a shooting death. Gone are the days when celebrities like Matthew Broderick could accidentally kill two people in a car crash and have it buried.
The Rust incident has been well documented. Not only does everyone know what happened, but thanks to the internet, we’re constantly reminded of it. As a result, that’s another sizable chunk of people who won’t be watching Alec Baldwin’s new reality show.
A Career In Decline
Then, there was Baldwin’s mistreatment of his oldest child. In 2007, a nasty voicemail the actor left for his then 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, leaked to the public. Among the audio was a diatribe in which Baldwin called his daughter a “rude, thoughtless little pig.” It’s hard to imagine anyone green-lighting an Alec Baldwin reality show about parenting after that.
It would be an exaggeration to say that the entire country is done with Alec Baldwin, but he certainly doesn’t have the fan base he once did.
Saying His Name Three Times Won’t Bring Him Back
Fans of Beetlejuice can’t help but notice that the actor isn’t in the sequel coming out later this year. Could Baldwin’s absence from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice have anything to do with his waning popularity as an actor? Who knows but it’s very telling that nobody seems to care all that much.
No one online is raging over the fact that Adam Maitland won’t make a return alongside Michael Keaton’s ghost with the most. That should give you a clue as to how many people can’t wait to watch an Alec Baldwin reality show. Hint: the answer rhymes with hero.
We’ll see just how many people tune in to watch Alec and Hillary—sorry—Hilaria Baldwin give parenting tips when their untitled reality show hits TLC sometime next year.
