The Star Wars franchise has been a bit lackluster in recent outings, garnering middling reviews for The Mandalorian‘s third season as well as The Book of Boba Fett, leaving some fans to wonder if this franchise fatigue could spell the end for the decades old space adventure.

Luckily for fans of the franchise, the latest reviews for Ahsoka seem to confirm that the show serves as a refreshing new take on a beloved character, breathing new life into Star Wars and potentially even saving the franchise.

Mark Cassidy from ComicBookMovie specifically cites Rosario Dawson’s performance as the titular Jedi, as well as the many callbacks to series showrunner Dave Filoni’s previous Star Wars series as high points of praise.

Many other critics felt that Ahsoka serves as a direct continuation of Star Wars: Rebels, which premiered in 2014 and ran for 4 seasons. This means that fans of Filoni’s previous work will likely be overjoyed at the return to form, while newcomers to the franchise may find themselves a bit lost at first.

Audiences across the board seem to be pleased with Rosario Dawson’s performance as Ahsoka, though the incredible work of the entire ensemble is providing critics with plenty to discuss in the days leading up to the series premiere.

Still, critics reference the series’ thematic continuation of Rebels as a point of positivity, with Ahsoka‘s early episodes showing a great deal of humor, wit, and action-packed adventuring set to bring Star Wars back into the hearts and minds of the general public.

The cast of Ahsoka also offers a wide variety of wonderful performances for critics to praise, with no clear frontrunner named as the best performance in the show. Matthew Simpson of Exclaim praised the late Ray Stevenson for his portrayal of Baylan Skoll, while Ash Crossan from ETNow cheered for the unshakable charisma presented by Ivanna Sakhno, who plays Shin Hati in the upcoming series.

Above all else, critics seem to be praising series showrunner Dave Filoni for his work constructing the show.

Above all else, critics seem to be praising series showrunner Dave Filoni for his work constructing the show. Filoni has been a mainstay within the Star Wars universe for nearly two decades now, getting his start with 2008’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Both the film and the television series of the same name featured early inclusions from Filoni such as the first outing of the Ahsoka character, as well as a trademark sense of style and humor which the filmmaker has harnessed over the years.

While there seems to be no word yet on whether or not the project is still being worked on, Dave Filoni has signed on to direct an untitled Star Wars film which is said to connect the entire web of Disney+ series’ into a harmonious conclusion. Though the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have threatened any active productions at this time, the August 22 premiere of Star Wars: Ahsoka has many fans hoping the film still gets made.
