Ahsoka Finale Reveals Major Mandalorian Appearances?
It’s no big secret that the events of Ahsoka are leading up to a theatrical film set in what fans have dubbed the Mando-Verse. Lucasfilm announced a while ago that Dave Filoni is working on a project that will tie together story threads from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka, culminating in the creator’s definitive take on the shared world of all the Disney+ Star Wars shows. What is a secret is how many—if any—characters from The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett will swing by Ahsoka for its Season 1 finale.
Members of the Mando-Verse have been getting their peanut butter in each other’s chocolate since the second season of flagship series The Mandalorian Season 2 featured guest roles from Boba Fett, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Ahsoka Tano. Meanwhile, Ahsoka, Din Djarin, and Grogu all popped up in The Book of Boba Fett, while The Mandolorian Season 3 was pretty much the Bo-Katan show.
It’s very likely that the Grand Admiral will be greeted by several pissed-off Mandalorians when he arrives in the main Star Wars galaxy.
So far, the only anomaly in the so-called Mando-Verse has been Ahsoka. While it’s obvious that Dave Filoni wanted Ahsoka to mostly be a thinly veiled Rebels reunion, he did manage to squeeze in a bit of connective tissue by including New Republic X-Wing pilot Carson Teva (Kim’s Convenience star Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), a character previously featured in several episodes of The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett.
And though it’s awesome that the Mando-Verse has its own version of Wedge Antilles—the Rogue Squadron pilot featured in bit parts across the original trilogy—Teva isn’t exactly the crowd-pleaser that Din Djarin or Bo-Katan are.
Bo-Katan and Din Djarin won’t just want to wail on Thrawn simply to hold on to the recently liberated Mandalore but also to find out where Moff Gideon is hiding.
Given that the previous Mando-Verse series have saved their best cameos for the end, there is a good chance that all that will change with the Ahsoka finale. Look, we all know that Thrawn is going to make it off of Peridea, if only so that he can be the major antagonist of Filoni’s upcoming movie. With that in mind, it’s very likely that the Grand Admiral will be greeted by several pissed-off Mandalorians when he arrives in the main Star Wars galaxy.
When Ahsoka tries and inevitably fails to stop Thrawn from leaving Peridea with his forces, she will most likely get word to Hera about Thrawn’s imminent return to the main Star Wars galaxy. With the New Republic set up as an ineffectual bureaucracy that refuses to take the return of Thrawn seriously, Hera will have no choice but to seek help elsewhere: enter the Mandalorians.
Seeing as how Bo-Katan and the other Mandalorians spent the latter half of The Mandalorian Season 3 fighting to retake Mandalore from Imperial control, it’s not going to take too much convincing for her to get Bo-Katan to join the fight against Thrawn. And once Bo-Katan is aboard, Din Djarin is sure to follow.
Where Din Djarin goes, so goes the foundling Grogu meaning that the Ahsoka finale might even feature an appearance from everyone’s favorite little green muppet.
Bo-Katan and Din Djarin won’t just want to wail on Thrawn simply to hold on to the recently liberated Mandalore but also to find out where Moff Gideon is hiding. After leading the purge of Mandalore—the Imperial bombardment that left Madalore a dead husk of a planet and led to Bo-Katan and the other Mandos going into exile—and destroying the Darksaber—a sacred Mandalorian artifact—Moff Gideon is definitely numero uno on Bo-Katan’s hit list.
One can easily imagine her and Din Djarin gleefully agreeing to fight with Ahsoka against Thrawn and the Imperial remnant in return for a chance to get revenge on Gideon and justice for Mandalore.
Where Din Djarin goes, so goes the foundling Grogu meaning that the Ahsoka finale might even feature an appearance from everyone’s favorite little green muppet. For Filoni and crew to stick the landing and successfully set up the Mando-Verse film in the process, expect Thrawn to make it back to the Star Wars galaxy, go up against Hera and the Mandalorians, win due to some kind of secret weapon and begin an attempt to take over the galaxy that will lead directly into the upcoming movie.
We can already see the final scenes. Bo-Katan orders the Mandalorians to retreat, and she, Din, Ahsoka, Hera, Ezra, and Sabine go on to face the New Republic senate and explain to them what happened. “Thrawn’s back, and this time he has (insert McGuffin here) with him!”
At least, that’s how we would do it. But for now, we have to wait and see what happens when Ahsoka’s season finale airs on Disney+.
