Disney Reveals New Look For Agatha: Darkhold Diaries
It’s an open secret that the Marvel content on Disney+ has been lacking lately, and it seems like most of it can’t fill the very tall shoes left behind by the ambitious and popular WandaVision series. Because of this, Disney is paying special attention to the roll-out of the WandaVision spinoff series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Disney has unveiled a new logo for Agatha this week, and the stylized design is sure to whet the appetite of fans looking forward to the upcoming season of a very different kind of witch.
Agatha Remains Trapped In Wanda’s Spell
What has the character of Agatha Harkness actually been getting up to, though? Believe it or not, she has spent all of the time leading up to the first episode of the spinoff trapped in the cruel spell that Scarlet Witch hit her with in the final episode of WandaVision. In a fit of karmic irony, this spell trapped Agatha in the same sitcom persona she had used to trick the Scarlet Witch, forcing the evil foe to get a taste of her own medicine.
Agatha Seeks To Regain Her Magic In Darkhold Diaries
We don’t know much about the overall plot of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, but we do have details about the first episode. The description that Deadline obtained from the U.S. Copyright Office Public Records System begins as follows:
“In the first episode we see Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in,” and the description notes how the witch “can’t wait to go back to her old murderous ways only to find that she is powerless. The only way forward for her is to embark on a perilous quest to get her powers back with the help of an unlikely friend or two.”
Agatha Stole The Show In WandaVision
You don’t have to read between the lines to see that, as with Loki, Disney wants to have their cake and eat it, too, when it comes to an Agatha spinoff. The character won audiences over in WandaVision because she was as charming as she was beautiful (qualities that come quite easily to the talented Kathryn Hahn), all of which made her eventual heel turn that much more dramatic. Now that Agatha is revealed as a villain, though, you’d expect her to go on a murderous rampage of revenge, and this plot helps to keep the protagonist from immediately reverting to a one-note villain.
Disney Follow’s Loki’s Footsteps With This Agatha Spinoff
Audiences were naturally curious why supervillain Loki wouldn’t focus on his own petty revenge, and that’s why the Loki TV series saddled the God of Mischief with new allies like Mobius and a new mission to preserve the timeline along with the TVA. The plot of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries sounds similar, allowing the title character to go on some Loki-like road trips and meet some new faces. One of those faces will be the geek girl next door Aubrey Plaza, and we’re looking forward to her bringing the brand-new Marvel character Rio Vidal to life.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries Comes To Disney+ Fall Of 2024
Right now, though, this new logo might be all that we have of the Agatha: Darkhold Diaries spinoff until the show premieres. Disney has already pushed the premiere back to some time in fall 2024, and the recent strikes may very well push that date back even further. However, we’re definitely willing to wait for a quality show, and Disney may very well discover what their not-so-magical recent shows have been missing: it was Agatha all along.
