Pierce Brosnan Gives Aaron Taylor-Johnson The James Bond Blessing
Based on the popular novels by Ian Fleming, the James Bond film franchise has launched such actors as Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan into cinematic history. Stepping into the shoes of 007 is no small feat, and it seems like Aaron Taylor-Johnson might be the next in line. Taylor-Johnson’s chances of becoming the next James Bond just got a major boost as he continues to receive green lights from industry greats, and this time it comes from Pierce Brosnan, a former Bond himself.
Pierce Brosnan Supports Aaron Taylor-Johnson As James Bond
In an interview on The Ray D’Arcy Show on RTE Radio 1, Brosnan spoke positively of the young Kick-Ass star. He first acknowledged that he read the news about Aaron Taylor-Johnson becoming the next James Bond and then continued to say, “I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so.”
The Two Have Worked Together
This wasn’t the end of his praises as he looked back on the time the two worked together. Back in 2009, Brosnan produced and starred in the romantic drama film The Greatest, and co-starring him was Aaron Taylor-Johnson, joining Carey Mulligan.
The former James Bond talked highly of Johnson’s acting on the set, simply stating that he was the greatest in it. He even gave advice to the actor, saying that he should be bold, embrace the opportunity, and truly enjoy the experience if he lands the part.
A Former James Bond
Brosnan himself played 007 between the mid-90s and early 2000s in four films, Golden Eye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day. Though the quality of each film can be debated, there’s no denying that the franchise was in dire straits before the former Remington Steele star took over. With such a legacy behind him, Brosnan’s words of praise certainly improve Johnson’s chances of succeeding Daniel Craig as the next super spy.
A Sea Of Potential Spies
Nevertheless, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is still far from being confirmed as the new James Bond, and while he is in contention for the role, over the last few years, we have witnessed several actor names enter the rumor mill. For instance, news of Idris Elba as a potential spy sent the industry into a frenzy, and then we had Henry Cavill and even a potential female super spy that would turn the franchise upside down.
Another Bond Praised Aaron Taylor-Johnson
On the other hand, Johnson seems closer than ever to landing the role with such a legacy behind it. Brosnan isn’t the only ex-James Bond who praised him. George Lazenby, who portrayed 007 in the film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, also said a few good words about Taylor-Johnson becoming the new licensed-to-kill agent.
Reinventing Bond
He said that Aaron Taylor-Johnson can “handle the stunts and all the ladies who love a man in a tux.” Moreover, he went further to say that he needs “to be true to himself and reinvent the role to fit him.”
Anyways, the tuxedo remains unfilled since Daniel Craig’s last portrayal in No Time to Die in 2021. Only time will tell if Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s destiny will become entwined with that of James Bond.
