Filming has officially started on Netflix’s highly anticipated sitcom, That ‘90s Show. Now, thanks to a few leaked images from the set, fans got their first look at Point Place, Wisconsin in a new decade. Shared by @josh_kunis on Twitter, the photos reveal that not much has changed since the ’70s. In the first picture, Red and Kitty Forman are seen in mid-conversation at their kitchen breakfast nook. The family’s kitchen has been upgraded with a new table and wallpaper since the last time fans visited their home.
There’s also a snapshot of the audience and the official slate for That ‘90s Show, which reveals that Gail Mancuso (of Modern Family fame) will have a hand in the reboot. Another photo gives fans a glimpse at the iconic basement where Eric and his friends gathered in that infamous circle. It looks almost exactly as the original gang left it. But the old sofa has been replaced with a slightly less beat-up couch. The new one isn’t being held together with duct tape.
Cameras officially began rolling on February 11th, with the series taking on a multi-cam format just like That ‘70s Show. Check out the set photos from That ‘90s Show below:
Set 15 years after the events of its predecessor, That ’90s Show will serve as a follow-up to hit sitcom That ’70s Show. Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp will anchor the Netflix spinoff, reprising their respective roles as Red Forman and Kitty Forman respectively. They will executive produce the series alongside its creator (and That ‘70s Show alum), Gregg Mettle who also serves as showrunner. That ’70s Show co-creators Bonnie Turner, Terry Turner, and their daughter Lindsay Turner will help out with producing duties.
In February, Callie Haverda, Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Reyn Doi, and Sam Morelos joined That ‘90s Show as series regulars. Deadline also reported that Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Mila Kunis, and Ashton Kutcher were in negotiations to appear in recurring roles. There’s no word on whether Wilmer Valderrama will also appear. However, Danny Masterson will not be featured at all due to his ongoing legal troubles.
Set in Wisconsin in 1995, That ’90s Show follows Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the daughter of Eric (Topher Grace), and Donna (Laura Prepon), who is visiting her grandparents for the summer. During her time in Point Place, she bonds with a new generation of teens under the stern glare of Red and the watchful eye of Kitty. Sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll never dies, it just changes clothes, reads the show’s official tagline.
That ’90s Show also is executive produced by Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner under the Carsey-Werner Company, which produced That ’70s Show and its offshoot That ’80s Show. Netflix has only given the series a 10 episode order for now. But if it’s anything like the original, the highly anticipated revival series will be around for a very long time. There is no release date for the series at this time.
