Taylor Swift Terrorist Plot Cancels Eras Tour Concerts

Anybody who has not been living under a rock is fully aware of how popular Taylor Swift is right now. Her song releases are breaking all kinds of records, and her Eras tour is likewise the most successful tour of all time. Unfortunately, that popularity also makes Taylor Swift’s concerts a target for those with nefarious intentions, as evidenced by her recent need to cancel her Vienna concerts due to a discovered terrorist plot.

Safety First

Fortunately, the plan was caught before it could be launched into action and arrests were made of the planned culprits. Nonetheless, with such a palpable threat confirmed, for the safety of all involved, this section of Taylor Swift’s tour was canceled as a result of the terrorist behavior. While those who had tickets are no doubt disappointed about not getting to see Swift, that pales in comparison to ensuring nobody’s life was in danger.

Austrian concert promoter Barracuda Music made a statement regarding the situation, clearly informing everyone why the cancellation was necessary. They posted, “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Vienna Shows cancelled due to government officials confirmation of planned terrorist attack. With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.”

Arrests Were Made

Swift’s concerts were planned for August 8, 9, and 10 at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium. Police confirmed that these were not idle threats and that the two men they arrested in relation to the incident had pledged themselves to ISIS, were arrested at their homes where chemicals and other dangerous substances were found, and they had concrete plans for how they were going to attack.

It is unclear if Taylor Swift specifically was the target of the terrorists or if her concerts were chosen simply because of how many people would be in attendance that could be targeted.

Refunding Ticket Holders

While the money spent is a minor consideration in comparison to people’s lives, it was also confirmed that the ticketholders would be getting refunds within the next two weeks. While Taylor Swift has not as of yet made any comment on this incident, fans have noted that in the past she has said that one of her biggest fears was a terrorist attack at one of her shows.

Similar Threats

This is, unfortunately, not the only such incident recently. As recently as last week, Morgan Wallen’s concert had to be delayed due to a terroristic threat being made in Kansas. Europe, in particular, has had a string of incidents involving threats of terrorism this year. As such, it has made law enforcement prepared for dealing with situations like Taylor Swift’s concert receiving terrorist threats.

While most of the recent incidents have been thwarted, there have been sobering reminders of what can happen in the worst-case scenario. In 2017, an Ariana Grande concert was attacked by a suicide bomber who wound up taking the lives of 22 people and injuring over 100 others. Despite the suspects in the Taylor Swift concert terrorist incident already being apprehended, it is understandable why the venue exercised caution in canceling anyway.

More News To Come

Few details are known about the suspects at this time. Police have confirmed that both are male, and one was only 19 years old and living with family. It remains to be seen how Taylor Swift plans to handle the remainder of her tour following this terrorist scare.
