Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris And The Internet Explodes
Taylor Swift took to Instagram Tuesday night to verbalize her endorsement of Kamala Harris. Uploaded shortly after the conclusion of the presidential debate that occurred earlier in the evening, Swift demonstrated her strong political influence.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Taylor Swift shared. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
According to the Harris campaign, Taylor Swift’s endorsement came to them as a surprise. Tim Walz, who is currently running as Kamala Harris’ VP, was shown the message in a post-debate interview. According to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Walz broke into a gleeful smile at the news.
“That’s the kind of courage we need in America to stand up,” Walz told Maddow.
Ready For It?
This is not the first time that Taylor Swift has used her platform to speak on political issues. In the 2020 presidential election, she was very vocal about her support for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ campaigns. Also, during the midterms in 2018, Swift heavily endorsed the then-democratic nominees, Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper, who were running for office in her home state of Tennessee.

According to the celebrity, after viewing Trump’s post of fake AI images depicting her wearing a “Swifties for Trump” shirt, she knew she needed to set the record straight.
“The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,” she told her fans.
Stevie Nicks Joined In
Taylor Swift’s now-viral endorsement of Kamala Harris has inspired other celebrities to post similar messages.
Legendary musician Stevie Nicks uploaded a picture of herself holding her dog, nodding to the picture on Taylor’s endorsement post where she is posed cuddling one of her cats. In the caption, Nicks stated, “As my friend @taylorswift so eloquently stated, now is the time to research and choose the candidate that speaks to you!”
Not Everyone Is Onboard With Taylor
As for the general public’s opinion, the reception of Swift’s post has been mixed.
“The worst person you know is reposting Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala,” one user posted to X.
Former NFL star and Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III said, “Oh, it’s over. Swifties don’t play.”
Other audiences seem to be unimpressed with Taylor Swift’s declaration, deeming the endorsement hypocritical. Many pointed out that, despite demand from her fans, Taylor Swift has refused to comment on the current happenings in Palestine, claiming that she picks and chooses when to take political stances. This is similar to the controversy she received in 2016 when she remained apolitical during the election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
The Swifties Are Coming For The Election
However, to many of her followers and fans, the Kamala Harris endorsement post felt like a win. Many hope that she continues to show this level of support for the democratic nominee as we move further and further into election season. As of now, the Harris campaign seems to be running with the Swiftie blessing, releasing Harris-Walz friendship bracelets merely hours after Taylor Swift’s post went live. A nod to the trend of Swift fans making friendship bracelets to wear and trade at her concerts for the Eras Tour.
Currently, Taylor Swift has yet to comment on the reactions to her post, and it remains uncertain if she will. However, supporters of both Taylor Swift and Kamala Harris hope that this will not be the only time she demonstrates her support during the election season. As for now, we can only wait and see.
