Sharon Stone Has Lost Most Of Her Money Because Of A Catastrophic Failure
Sharon Stone says she lost half of her money in a recent bank collapse.
Sharon Stone had an emotional evening as she accepted the Courage Award on Thursday night during the Women’s Cancer Research Fund’s (WCRF) An Unforgettable Evening fundraiser (via The Hollywood Reporter). The Basic Instinct star spoke about her experiences with cancer health scares, the recent loss of her brother, and the massive amount of money she recently lost due to the bank collapse. As Stone spoke passionately to the crowd in an effort to raise more money for the cause, she said “I know that thing that you have to get on and figure out how to text the money is difficult,” and “I’m a technical idiot, but I can write a f***ing check” before adding “I just lost half my money to this banking thing, and that doesn’t mean that I’m not here.”
Sharon Stone is likely referring to the recent collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, whose parent company also recently filed for bankruptcy. The collapse of Silicon Valley Bank has led to volatile swings in financial markets and has caused serious cash flow issues for many businesses that utilize the bank. While taxpayers and investors have been assured that they won’t suffer losses from the collapse, it seems like it might not be that cut-and-dry.
Presumably, Sharon Stone will get her money back if she’s simply talking about accounts she had with the bank. Then again, it’s possible that she’s referring to the investments she had in the stock market and other financial products, which could have caused her asset worth to dip due to volatility. It’s not entirely clear how much money Stone has lost or why she lost the money, but it certainly seems like the SVB collapse has affected her funds in some way or another.
However, Sharon Stone’s comments about her money were just a small footnote on a night when she primarily focused on raising awareness and money for breast cancer. Stone spoke at length about her own experiences getting mammograms, getting surgery to remove benign tumors, and her experience helping her hairstylist prepare for the hair loss she’ll experience from chemotherapy treatments. The night also featured a Maroon 5 performance, the proceeds of which were donated to the fundraiser.
When Sharon Stone isn’t busy lighting up the stage at fundraisers, she also managed to recently steal the show during an episode of Saturday Night Live back in January. The actor took the stage and made a surprise appearance during Sam Smith’s performance of “Gloria,” laying on a bed for most of the performance and then rising up near the end of the song. She also made an appearance in a skit alongside the host of the night Aubrey Plaza.
Sharon Stone also had a scene-stealing role in the hit HBO show The Flight Attendant alongside star Kaley Cuoco earlier this year. Stone played the mother of Cuoco’s character, and her performance was widely praised. With the future of the show being uncertain, we may not get to see her reprise the role, but we can keep our fingers crossed.
As for future projects, Sharon Stone doesn’t have too much on the docket right now. While she was reportedly in talks to play the villain in DC’s Blue Beetle, that role ended up going to Susan Sarandon instead. For now, stay tuned for Stone’s future projects, and we’ll keep you updated.
