Karen Gillan has accomplished a lot since her breakout role as Amy Pond in Doctor Who, and she continues to be productive in a TikTok video she posted. In it, she is wearing very tight blue jeans and a white summer top, and dances to a techo-industrial song with a variety of moves that show off how she got to play Ruby Roundhouse in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Her long red hair whips around her face as she busts a move in her hotel room, with the caption “keeping super productive in this hotel room” superimposed under her image.

While she may not be winning any awards for her dancing, the moves show off Karen Gillan’s figure and her athleticism as she fluidly moves into poses that are challenging even to the most practiced yoga enthusiasts. Watching her candidly cut up on her social media gives viewers a glimpse into the endurance she has had to have in order to play some of her more physically demanding roles. If this is what she does for fun, how agile must she be on set?
Fans of Karen Gillan have seen her race around time and space in the TARDIS and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Nebula, one of the daughters of Thanos. She played the man-slaying video game avatar Ruby Roundhouse in the Jumanji reboots, during which she was scantily clad in short khaki shorts and a red half-top while she performed feats of fighting against multiple foes. She also starred as a hired assassin in the Netflix John Wick-styled action film Gunpowder Milkshake.
Less well-known but still admirable are her other appearances, such as the 2013 horror film Oculus, in which she plays one of a pair of siblings investigating a ghostly mirror that leads to another dimension. She was also featured in an ensemble cast for 2022’s The Bubble, a Netflix film about actors trying to finish a movie during the pandemic by staying inside a sequestered area to shoot a film for a dying production company. She also played the part of Mercedes in the Harrison Ford version of the Jack London classic The Call of the Wild.
Also not as well known about Karen Gillan is that she has written and directed four pieces of her own, two of them short films, one feature-length, and one a piece of an anthology horror film. Will we see more directorial efforts from the companion of the Eleventh Doctor? Only time will tell but the fact that she already has experience in this sphere hints that we may see more content from her between TikTok dancing sets and Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances.
