After making her film debut at age 9 in the 1994 fantasy comedy North, Scarlett Johansson has become one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood. So it’s not surprising that fans on social media share images of the Marvel alum every day. The most recent photo sees the actress in a gold mini-dress, looking absolutely stunning.

The image is an outtake from a 2019 advertising campaign for the popular beauty company, Lux. Scarlett Johansson appeared in several print and digital adverts for the brand’s Japanese market. Images from the shoot, along with behind-the-scenes candid shots, were later released by Fresh Film’s Dennis Leupold who photographed the actress at the time.

Scarlett Johansson has often been described as a sex symbol by the media, something the star felt uncomfortable with for some time. She discussed the label during a recent appearance on the Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi podcast. Speaking candidly, the 38-year-old said she was groomed into becoming a “bombshell” actor during the early part of her career.

After landing roles in Lost in Translation, Girl with the Pearl Earring, and Match Point, Scarlett Johansson found herself playing the object of male desire on a regular basis. Since these movies were filmed when she was trying to cultivate star power in the industry, the actress said she found herself cornered and typecast. “I couldn’t get out of it,” she said via Variety.

Although her sex symbol image was working, Scarlett Johansson explained that those roles burn bright and quick, and then it’s over. “You don’t have opportunity beyond that,” she said. While she didn’t hate the job security her looks provided, the actress said she worked hard to carve a place in different projects and land roles in great ensemble movies.

Even when she was cast in the Black Widow role in Iron Man 2, Scarlett Johansson felt the character was underdeveloped and over-sexualized. So she worked with Jon Favreau and Marvel Studios boss, Kevin Feige to make Natasha Romanoff more progressive. Still, there have been times when her constant hyper-sexualization led her to think her career was ending.

Speaking on a 2022 episode of the Armchair Expert podcast, Scarlett Johansson said she felt like there weren’t any offers to work on projects she wanted to do. “I remember thinking… ‘People think I’m 40 years old.’ It somehow stopped being something that was desirable and something that I was fighting against,” she said via Yahoo.

Despite her fears, Scarlett Johansson’s career shows no signs of slowing down. She is set to star in Asteroid City, written, directed, and produced by Wes Anderson. The cast for the romantic comedy-drama has been described as “larger than most Anderson films that are ensemble in nature.”

Set in 1955, the story follows students and parents who gather for a school event in a fictional American desert town. But the itinerary of the Junior Stargazer convention is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events. The movie, starring Scarlett Johansson, will hit theaters on June 23.
