Sarah Michelle Gellar Couldn’t Eat McDonald’s For A Crazy Reason
Sarah Michelle Gellar starred in a Burger King commercial when she was five, mentioned McDonald's and was then sued by the fast-food chain.
Most everyone has their favorite item on the McDonald’s menu; whether you are a Big Mac person, or a chicken nuggets fan, going without can be a tricky proposition. Of course, there are many reasons why people would abstain from eating fast food, health notwithstanding. According to the New York Post, Sarah Michelle Gellar wasn’t allowed to eat at McDonald’s due to a judgment from a lawsuit.
According to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress, she starred in a commercial for one of Ronald McDonald’s biggest competitors, Burger King. During the commercial, the five-year-old Sarah Michelle Gellar mentioned McDonald’s, which prompted the Golden Arches to bring a lawsuit against the advertising agency, the opposition, and the child actress. Because of the suit, the Wolfpack actress was prohibited from eating their food, which proved to be detrimental to her young social life.
While she was excited to eat the burger during the shoot, like any kid who gets to indulge in fast food, Sarah Michelle Geller confessed it was difficult for her not to eat McDonald’s. According to the Scooby-Doo actor, she had a hard time not grabbing a Happy Meal because all of her friends would have their birthday parties at the Golden Arches. Who could resist the Play Place?
Sarah Michelle Gellar has been in the news a lot lately, and not just because she had the weirdest reason ever for avoiding McDonald’s. First and foremost, she has returned to the TV world in a new supernatural thriller series called Wolfpack. In the series, a group of teenagers unintentionally come into contact with an awakened werewolf following a massive fire.
Her other reason for being in the news has to do with her major career break in another supernatural thriller, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Due to the landslide of ramifications from the #MeToo movement and the rumors of problems on the set of Justice League, Joss Whedon has faced a long list of accusations. While there is no shortage of actors who were willing to call him out for his toxic behavior, Gellar had remained tight-lipped about much of what happened on set.
In the same interview where Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed McDonald’s stooped low enough to bring legal action against a five-year-old, she spoke about her reasoning for her silence. She said that she had spent so much time on a toxic set that she came to believe that was just how all sets were and that they intentionally attempted to keep women apart. She said she felt that higher-ups thought if women banded together, they would be too powerful, so they pitted them against each other.
There are dozens of reasons that all of us should avoid sitting in a drive-thru before indulging in a not-so-happy meal, but a lawsuit is one that very few people could claim as one. For Sarah Michelle Gellar, that was the main reason that she spent a long period of time before kindergarten abstaining from the Golden Arches. Even still, the actress was undoubtedly welcome at Burger King regardless.
