Salma Hayek is yet again sharing a bikini photo with her fans. In recent years, the Mexican and American actress has become something of a swimwear influencer. Her Instagram feed is full of jaw-dropping images of the star of Frida in various fabulous bikinis. And at 55 years old, it is safe to say that Hayek is looking incredible. In this particular image, Hayek appears in shock at the frigidity of the ocean water she’s in, the caption reading: “The pain and the pleasure of cold water.”

Of course, Salma Hayek has been a sex symbol for basically her entire career. She began acting in telenovelas in her native Mexico, and then transitioned to Hollywood in the early 1990s. She found it difficult to break into mainstream roles at first, particularly because of her limited English. Eventually, director Robert Rodriguez cast her in the 1995 Antonio Banders film Desperado, and things skyrocketed from there. Her role as a seductive vampire in From Dusk till Dawn made her a horror icon, and she played a notable part in the indie hit Dogma from Kevin Smith. She was also one of the least terrible parts of the notorious 1999 Will Smith disaster Wild Wild West, which in itself is a feat. Lest we forget:
However, it was in 2002 that Salma Hayek truly broke through to global audiences. As the title character in Julie Taymor’s film Frida, Hayek became the first Mexican actress to be nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actress. Her justly acclaimed performance as artist Frida Kahlo was followed by a series of commercial successes. She also moved into behind-the-scenes production, executive producing the American version of the show Ugly Betty. Around that time, she also married French billionaire and fashion mogul François-Henri Pinault, which will become notable below. She also appeared in the Shrek spin off Puss in Boots (with former co-star Antonio Banderas) and Adam Sandler’s Grown-Ups.
Just this past year, Salma Hayek starred in two eagerly anticipated films. She played a vital role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Eternals as the leader of the titular group (of which we snagged confirmation on an early rumor). While the movie was comparatively a disappointment at the box office for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it made all the money in the world for any business not named Marvel Studios. Although the rumor we confirmed was that the character died in the film, knowing the MCU, there’s a solid chance we might see her in the role again.
She also had a strong supporting role in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci film in 2021. Although the film was most commented on for the campiness of Gaga’s acting and the sheer volume of pseudo-Italian accents performed by the cast, Hayek was considered to have one of the best low key performances.
