Rebecca Black, Youtuber and singer whose popularity ballooned soon after her 2011 single Friday went viral, has released a new addition to her merch collection- a limited edition nudie playing cards deck. And if anyone had doubts about a product launched by Black, here is a little fact- within minutes of being launched, the cards were sold out!
Rebecca Black took to Instagram on June 11 and shared a short video demonstrating her new nudie playing cards deck. In the next 25 minutes, after she released the cards, her entire stock of the cards was sold out. The singer even took to her Instagram stories to celebrate the surprising sale and marveled that her cards being sold out in under 25 minutes means that her followers “really want this a**”
The cards are an addition to the existing merch products by Rebecca Black which includes Friday Thongs, Girlfriend sweatpants, and Girlfriend hoodies among other things. The card deck came at $30, designed by Weston Allen with art by Slick Satan, and as mentioned in the link Black shared, they were delivered in discreet packaging to ensure the privacy of the buyers. As of now, the limited edition product is sold out and there has been no information from Black about whether she plans on restocking them soon.
Twitter users have been having a field day with the release of the cards by Rebecca Black and their almost immediate sell-out. Some have expressed their dejection over not being able to purchase the cards in time as there was a limited stock, while some are simply curious as to how incredibly exceptional the cards were to be sold out so fast.
Given the slightly pixelated image of a card that Rebecca Black later shared in her story, the cards appear to have drawings of the singer. While she hasn’t mentioned it, the nude cards deck seems to be a follow-up to her announcement in May about finally releasing her eagerly-awaited new project Rebecca Black Was Here on June 16th. Along with the announcement, she released her new track ‘Worth It For The Feeling’ with its video which seems to be the inspiration of at least one card in the now sold-out card deck.
At the time of the announcement, she drove forth the point that every one of her songs to date has strived to make- that through her art, she wants to create a distinct world/era with each single she releases under her upcoming project Rebecca Black Was Here. The goal is to keep challenging herself so that she keeps doing things in a way that it disrupts others’ predictions of what she might do next.
Even though Rebecca Black’s first song, Friday, received mostly negative reviews and was heavily criticized, it still remains the song that gives her career the push it needed to take off. Earlier, on February 10, 2021, Rebecca Black released a 10-year anniversary remix of her first song “Friday.” The remix featured vocals from 3OH!3, Big Freedia, alt-pop musician Dorian Electra, and contrary to the original, received some pretty rave reviews.
