Mila Kunis And Ashton Kutcher Have Done Something Huge For Ukraine
This article is more than 2 years old
The war in Ukraine has been one of the most significant black eyes on the world stage in the last decade, seeing Vladimir Putin bring the entire Eastern Hemisphere to the brink of war. While the horrors of war continue to plague the country of Ukraine and the hundreds of thousands of people suffering within the borders, and fleeing to become refugees, Ukrainian native Mila Kunis and her husband, Ashton Kutcher, are not sitting idly by. According to Movie Web, the celebrity couple has started a campaign to raise money that has now reached a whopping $37 million.
A few months ago, the married stars pledged to match up to $3 million in donations for her home country; they have raised twelve times that amount. The goal of the endeavor was to provide short-term housing for all of the refugees fleeing the country to avoid the war. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher knew that once they saw Putin was going after the entire country that they had no time to waste and began a GoFundMe with a more charitable goal than say, the one for Amber Heard.
The pair met on the set of the television show, That 70s Show, which saw the beginning of Mila Kunis’ career and the rejuvenation of Ashton Kutcher’s. Since then, the two have both enjoyed success in Hollywood but also spent plenty of time pursuing philanthropic ends and using their influence to help as many people around them as they can. While they both have charitable hearts, they also find themselves chasing different ends.
For Mila Kunis, she spent her time, money, and efforts focusing on the Look Good…Feel Better Foundation, promising to help women suffering from cancer’s effects. While the disease ravages many people every year, Mila Kunis, with the support of Ashton Kutcher, looked to help women face the physical impact of cancer by assisting them in regaining their natural looks. Of course, when her native Ukraine was hit with war, it was a natural time to segue into a new fundraising effort.
Mila Kunis isn’t alone in her home with philanthropic endeavors as Ashton Kutcher, too, has moved away from acting to focus his efforts on helping others. In 2006, the actor vowed to donate $1 for every MySpace friend he gained to Habitat for Humanity and spent a week building houses for them in Central America. He then moved on to create the DNA Foundation, which hopes to eliminate child sex trafficking globally while also working to rehabilitate those suffering from its effects.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are some of the biggest names in the world, with recognizable faces and successful endeavors on and off the screen. The pair are a reputable powerhouse for charitable work and continue to prove it daily with their foundations and ability to raise funds for those who need it most.
The actress may have moved from Ukraine to Los Angeles when she was a child and considers herself American; she admits to being very proud and connected to her heritage, even passing it down to her children. She still speaks Russian to her parents and feeds her family her mother’s food, never straying far from the Ukrainian lineage. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher may be American, but their hearts are in Ukraine.
