Megan Fox Under Fire For Controversial Halloween Costume
Megan Fox is in hot water with her Hollywood peers after the actress stepped out with her beau, Machine Gun Kelly, both wearing costumes that went against SAG-AFTRA’s guidelines. Throwing things back to 2003, the couple dressed as Gogo Yubari and Beatrix Kiddo from Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 1. Adding insult to injury, Fox acknowledged that she was fully railing against the union’s call for actors to not cross the picket lines by way of costume by tagging SAG-AFTRA in her caption.
The move was a questionable one, and now Megan Fox is facing pushback from not only the union but from specific members as well. In her comment section, actress Paige McGarvin wrote a message to Fox, telling her that while it was well within her right to disagree with the union’s costume rules, it was tasteless to post such an image as it could hurt the cause.
On October 18, SAG-AFTRA laid out rules for its members who have now been on strike since July. Those at the top of the union handed down the expectation that those celebrating Halloween could dress as “characters from non-struck content, like an animated TV show,” but shouldn’t “post photos of costumes inspired by struck content to social media.”
Essentially, the union wasn’t even telling actors like Megan Fox that they couldn’t dress as film characters but instead was simply pleading with them to not share it on their social media accounts.
While Megan Fox’s Instagram post mostly brought shade from followers and fellow peers in the business, SAG-AFTRA caught its fair share of gruff from members when it announced the social media ban. Included in those up in arms about such a rule were This Is Us star, Mandy Moore, and Little House on the Prairie’s Melissa Gilbert, with both actresses slamming the union for its costume rule.
As for Megan Fox, the Jennifer’s Body actress most recently appeared opposite the likes of action stars including Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone in the box office bust, Expend4bles. Earlier this year, she starred in a modern adaptation of the story of Bonnie and Clyde in Tom DeNucci’s Johnny & Clyde, a production that caught a lot of hate from critics.
Next up, Megan Fox will join a star-studded vocal cast set to include Gerard Butler, Kate Winslet, Whoopie Goldberg, James Franco, Owen Wilson, and more in the animated feature, Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin. Beyond that, she’s added her name to the call sheet of S.K. Dale’s upcoming sci-fi thriller, Subservience.
Although she’s catching some flack from her co-workers and fans, Megan Fox has never been one to shy away from sharing her feelings no matter what price she may pay. She and Machine Gun Kelly have long enjoyed the shock value of posting over-the-top pictures to their social media pages celebrating their love and, really, this latest post is no different. As for how things will shake out for the star as she’s essentially crossed the picket lines with her Instagram Halloween post, it’s anyone’s guess if the union will hit her with any sort of repercussions.
