Mark Hamill Raising Money For Army Of Drones
Mark Hamill is the spokesman for United24's Army of Drones, a fundraising effort to support Ukraine in their war against Russia.
Mark Hamill is embodying the Luke Skywalker spirit as he continues his ambassador efforts for Ukraine. Since becoming the face of United24’s “Army of Drones” goal, Hamill has helped raise money for 500 drones for Ukraine so far, with more on the way. Speaking to The Associated Press, Hamill cites his ability to “reach people” as the reason he’s able to encourage donations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also thanked Mark Hamill for his crowdfunding efforts, saying “As in ‘Star Wars,’ good will triumph over evil and light will overcome darkness.” Hamill officially became an ambassador for United24 in September. Hamill is one of the various celebrities that have become an ambassador for the platform that raises money for various initiatives to help Ukraine during the Russian invasion.
Mark Hamill also mentioned that the “Army of Drones” initiative primarily raises money for RQ-35 Heidrun drones, which are non-lethal. The goal of the drones is to provide Ukraine with additional means of surveillance and reconnaissance. Along with donating money to the initiative, people can also donate drones to the cause.
If you’re looking for an ambassador that can represent a shining beacon of good, you could certainly do worse than Luke Skywalker himself. Mark Hamill continues to play Luke to this day, with various appearances in the Disney+ show, The Mandalorian, as a de-aged version of the character and appearances as an older version in the recent movie trilogy. It remains to be seen if Hamill will continue to reprise his role as Luke in future Disney efforts, but it’s always good to see that his Star Wars star power can do some good in the world.
While Mark Hamill may not play Luke Skywalker again in the future, the Star Wars universe is as popular as ever. The franchise recently aired the season finale of Andor, which might be one of the best Star Wars projects since the original trilogy. Disney also has Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 and The Mandalorian Season 3 in the upcoming release pipeline.
When Mark Hamill isn’t busy playing Luke Skywalker and lending his support to Ukraine, he’s been voicing various characters for TV. Most recently, he voiced Merv Pumpkinhead in the Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. With more episodes of The Sandman on the way, perhaps we could hear more of Hamill’s voice talents on the series in the future.
Mark Hamill will also be reprising his voice role in the next season of Invincible, which doesn’t have a launch date quite yet. However, we can look forward to seeing Hamill in some live-action roles in 2023, such as The Fall of the House of Usher, a Netflix TV mini-series from Mike Flanagan that is based on the poem by Edgar Allen Poe.
Mark Hamill is also set to star in an upcoming film by comedian Bert Kreischer, which sees Kreischer’s past catch up to him when he’s kidnapped by those he wronged during a college semester abroad. Hamill plays his father in the film. There is no release date for the film at this time, but it’s currently in the post-production stages.
