Mariska Hargitay Posts Throwback Photo That Has Fans Going Nuts
Mariska Hargitay posted a throwback photo from her obscure show, Can't Hurry Love.
If you recognize actress Mariska Hargitay, it’s probably for her long-running role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. For 24 years, she has played Detective Olivia Benson, the commanding officer of the titular Special Victims Unit, as the show became the third longest-running scripted primetime TV series in the U.S., just under The Simpsons and South Park. However, before that, Hargitay played Didi Edelstein in the shortlived sitcom Can’t Hurry Love — and a photo of the character that she posted to Instagram is getting a lot of attention from Hargitay’s fans.
Mariska Hargitay’s character, Didi, was described as a “sexy divorcee” who gives dating advice to the show’s other characters, Annie O’Donnell (Nancy McKeon) and Roger Carlucci (Louis Mandylor) and Elliot Tanny (Kevin Crowly). She appeared in every episode of the show — which isn’t a huge feat, since it only lasted for a single 19-episode season.
Despite featuring Mariska Hargitay, Can’t Hurry Love is a very obscure show. It’s not available for streaming on any digital service, and no Blu-Ray, DVD, or VHS of any of the show’s episodes has ever been released. In fact, the only way anyone can view the show is through watching episodes that have been uploaded to YouTube — most likely illegally.
With the show being such a non-starter, it’s very little surprise that most actors who appeared in the series never made it big. Nancy McKeon, who had top billing in the show, has probably the most-successful career besides Mariska Hargitay’s. She starred in the Lifetime police drama The Division across its four seasons, along with appearing in shortlived shows such as the sitcom Style & Substance, the Disney teen sitcom Sonny with a Chance, and the Amazon Prime teen drama Panic.
The other stars continued acting but didn’t have as much luck finding lasting gigs as Mariska Hargitay or Nancy McKeon. Louis Mandylor appeared in the 1998 martial arts TV series Martial Law, and the 2003 sitcom My Big Fat Greek Life, but other than that, his biggest role has been that of the sheriff in 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood. Kevin Crowley had even less luck, with his biggest role after Can’t Hurry Love being a supporting role in the 2015 romantic drama Carol.
Mariska Hargitay, meanwhile, has mostly been busy with her long-running role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. However, she had no problem landing roles in the three-year period between Can’t Hurry Love‘s cancellation and the start of SVU. Among other things, she appeared in two seasons of the medical drama ER, six episodes of the crime drama Prince Street, and the horror film Lake Placid.
Since then, however, there’s very little that Mariska Hargitay has done that’s not related to her role of Olivia Benson, though her character had guest appearances in the original Law & Order TV series, along with Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Law & Order: Trial by Jury and Law & Order: Organized Crime.
Mariska Hargitay has had a few other roles since beginning SVU, however. She lent her voice to the video game True Crime: New York City, voiced Tenar in the English version of Tales from Earthsea, and played Darcy in the barely-known comedy-drama Perfume.
