Lisa Marie Presley In Critical Condition, Coma Induced
Lisa Marie Presley is in a medically induced coma following a cardiac event at her home.
Lisa Marie Presley is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit, according to TMZ sources. The site reports that the 54-year-old daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley is in an induced coma, and is in critical condition on life support with a temporary pacemaker. The singer-songwriter was brought into the hospital by paramedics after suffering cardiac arrest in her home on Thursday morning.
Lisa Marie Presley was found unresponsive in her bedroom by the artist’s housekeeper moments before Presley’s ex-husband Danny Keough (whom she lives with), returned home after dropping their kids off at school. Keough performed CPR until the paramedics arrived and took over. The paramedics were able to bring back Presley’s pulse after administering an epinephrine (adrenaline) shot.
According to TMZ’s sources, Lisa Marie Presley had been suffering stomach pains earlier that morning, which she complained of becoming more and more intense as time passed. TMZ’s sources were very clear that Presley’s condition is not due to a suicide attempt. Presley’s mother, Priscilla, and her daughter, Riley Keough, are reportedly by the singer-songwriter’s bedside.
Lisa Marie Presley was last seen in public at the 2023 Golden Globe award ceremony, where the biopic of Presley’s father, Elvis, won Best Actor for Austin Butler’s portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll. The film was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Director (Baz Luhrmann). During his acceptance speech, Butler thanked Lisa Marie and Priscilla for opening “your hearts, your memories, your home” in helping the actor prepare for the role, which made the mother-daughter duo cry.
As of now, there is no information as to what caused Lisa Marie Presley’s cardiac arrest, although plenty of speculation is likely to happen, especially considering how Presley’s father died at the age of 42 from a heart attack. Although Elvis’s heart attack was likely caused by his addiction to prescription barbiturates, and cardiac arrest and heart attacks are not the same, a cardiac arrest can be brought on by a biologically weaker heart, which Presley could have inherited.
In addition, Lisa Marie Presley’s cardiac arrest could have been brought on by stress in her personal life or medical problems caused by her past addictions. Growing up as the daughter of the most famous rock star ever, Presley lived a high-profile life that has always been on display to the public and has also lived a turbulent love life, having been married and divorced four times, including to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and actor Nicolas Cage. The singer-songwriter also admitted in a forward she wrote for Harry Nelson’s The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain that she has struggled with opioid addiction.
At this time, however, any suspicion of what caused Lisa Marie Presley’s cardiac arrest is simply speculation, and no official cause has yet been reported.
Following in her father’s footsteps, Lisa Marie Presley is known for her own music career and has released three albums. Her song “Lights Out” from her album, To Whom It May Concern, was her most successful hit, reaching #5 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
