Liev Schreiber Is Attempting To Help Ukraine In A Special Way
Actor Liev Schreiber is calling for donations to Ukraine’s fundraising platform UNITED24.
Liev Schreiber is doing his part to try and help Ukraine. Deadline reported that the actor has asked people to donate to Ukraine’s fundraising platform UNITED24 to help raise money for the Ukrainian medical facilities that are suffering power outages due to Russian attacks on the power grid. Schreiber posted his video appeal over the Thanksgiving holiday to encourage people to give what they can.
Liev Schreiber is an ambassador for the UNITED24 platform, which was launched by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to assist Ukraine after Russia began its invasion in February. The platform accepts charitable donations and helps the money go toward the places in Ukraine that need assistance most. Russia attacked Ukraine’s power grid on October 10, which left 10 million Ukrainian citizens and organizations without power.
Liev Schreiber has Ukrainian roots from his maternal grandfather and launched his support for this recent power outage campaign after hearing the story of cardiac surgeon Borys Todurov and his team performing a heart operation on a baby girl despite the electricity failing. According to Mariia Karchevych, the Deputy Minister for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the country will need at least 1,000 generators to make sure the medical facilities can run while the power outage persists.
Hopefully, Liev Schreiber’s campaign can help Ukraine get the generators it desperately needs to make sure these medical facilities can continue to care for people. UNITED24 is also collecting money for various other needs, such as defense and demining, humanitarian and medical aid, and an intuitive to rebuild Ukraine in the wake of the damage done by the Russian invasion. You can see the full reports that show where the money goes after it’s donated and you can make your own contributions on their website here.
Although ambassadors like Liev Schreiber undoubtedly help to call attention to Ukraine’s plight, there is undoubtedly still a lot of work to be done and initiatives that need to be funded. Hopefully, Russia will end its invasion and the conflict can be resolved through peace negotiations, but there’s really no telling how much longer this will go on. Until then, the best people outside of Ukraine can do is to continue to pay attention and try to provide aid to the country and its people.
We’ll have to wait and see how much Liev Schreiber’s campaign is able to help the medical facilities in Ukraine. Ideally, the campaign will be able to reach its funding goals and provide the 1,000 generators these hospitals need to continue to operate at an effective capacity. Fundraising campaigns like these are integral to helping Ukraine out, and medical facilities are especially essential when the country is getting actively attacked by invaders.
Outside of his charitable work as an ambassador for Ukraine, Liev Schreiber has several film projects coming out in the near future. Schreiber will be playing Henry Kissinger in the film Golda, which is scheduled for a 2023 release. He will also have a role in the next Wes Anderson film Asteroid City, alongside Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Willem Dafoe, Maya Hawke, Steve Carrell, Bryan Cranston, Adrien Brody, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Goldblum, Hong Chau, and more.
