Kim Basinger recently went on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk with her daughter, Ireland Baldwin. The interview revealed some surprising details about Basinger’s life, namely, the debilitating phobia that she had since childhood. It turns out that Basinger has dealt with high levels of anxiety and, by extension, agoraphobia for many years.

Kim Basinger went into further detail on the podcast, talking about how her mom would struggle with anxiety when she was growing up. Her school would eventually give her some tests that showed she had anxiety. This anxiety would eventually turn into agoraphobia when Basinger got older. Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder that makes you want to avoid places and situations where you could feel embarrassed, stressed, helpless, or trapped. Basinger recounted a specific experience where she felt overwhelmed and like she couldn’t breathe in a grocery store. She left the basket, drove home, and then didn’t drive for six or seven months. You can see a clip of her speaking about this phobia below:

Kim Basinger said she wouldn’t leave the house or have people over. She also said that she had to relearn how to drive, that she often felt like she had a dry mouth, and that she was exhausted all the time. She said she sought treatment for six months and that her daughter Ireland Baldwin really helped her to heal and come out of her shell. It certainly sounds like Basinger has had quite an intense experience with anxiety. Anyone else who struggles with this mood disorder could certainly relate to these feelings. Fortunately, it seems like Basinger is in a much better place now.

Although COVID and her anxiety could certainly be a factor, it’s been a while since we’ve seen Kim Basinger appear in any major projects. In 2018, she had an uncredited role in Fifty Shades Freed, reprising her role as Elena Lincoln from Fifty Shades Darker. Other than that, her last project was a short in 2021 called Back Home Again where she voiced Mother Bear. She currently doesn’t have any projects announced on her IMDb page, but hopefully, she’s feeling up to being in some new projects soon, as fans surely miss her.

Kim Basinger is perhaps best known for her Oscar-winning role in L.A. Confidential and for playing Vicki Vale in Michael Keaton’s Batman. of course, she was also well-known for her role in Never Say Never Again as a Bond girl opposite Sean Connery’s run as the character. This helped to launch her career into the stratosphere. Kim Basinger seems to be very particular with the roles she chooses, so it could be that she’s just waiting for the right one to come along. She elevates any of the projects she appears in, so there are surely plenty of offers out there for her.

Then again, it’s always possible Kim Basinger has no desire to return to the Hollywood machine. She’s a noted animal rights activist and she seems to be in a good place right now. The actress might just want to spend her time on other things.
