Kevin Spacey Cleared Of Charges In Court Trial
Variety reports that Kevin Spacey has been acquitted of all nine of his sexual misconduct charges this week when the U.K. jury found him not guilty. The verdict was made on July 26, and the House of Cards star broke down in tears when it was announced that he was a free man. Though Spacey was emotional upon hearing the verdict, he expressed gratitude to his manager, legal team, and the courthouse staff for their graciousness and professionalism.
“There’s a lot for me to process after what has just happened today.”
Kevin Spacey after being cleared of all sexual misconduct charges
Not only did Kevin Spacey have his name cleared in this most recent trial, which included charges of sexual assault, indecent assault, and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity, but he was also found not guilty in the $40 million civil lawsuit that was filed against him last October. In the civil suit, similar claims were made against Spacey by actor Anthony Rapp, who accused the 64-year-old actor of sexual battery back in 1986.
Kevin Spacey has been acquitted of all nine of his sexual misconduct charges this week when the U.K. jury found him not guilty.
During the four and a half week trial, the jury at the Southwark Crown Court in London heard from the four men who alleged that Kevin Spacey made inappropriate sexual advances toward them throughout the years. The men’s accounts, some of which date back to the early 2000s, all told a similar story about the Oscar-winning actor, but their allegations were ultimately refuted when the evidence presented by Spacey’s legal team successfully contradicted their claims.
The first accusation in which Kevin Spacey was accused was for groping one of the plaintiffs while driving on the motorway. This incident, which allegedly caused the first plaintiff to almost crash his car, was countered with evidence that suggests that the incident could have not occurred during the time it was alleged.
Similarly, the most serious complaint which involved Kevin Spacey allegedly performing oral sex on one of the plaintiffs while he was sleeping at the actor’s London apartment was also dismissed based on the evidence presented. Had the jury decided not to dismiss this charge, Spacey could have potentially received a life sentence.
But during the trial, Spacey and his legal team provided telephone records that contradicted the plaintiff’s allegations, clearing his name in the eyes of the jury.

Kevin Spacey was also cleared on the alleged 2005 incident in which he was said to have groped a man at a party. In this case, Spacey denied ever meeting the man, and his assertion clearly held some weight.
The fourth complaint, which took place at a party at Spacey’s rented house in Gloucestershire, was also dismissed by the court yesterday. In this case, however, Spacey admitted to making a drunken “clumsy pass” toward the plaintiff, but denied any accounts of sexual assault that were presented to the court.
Upon hearing the verdict, Kevin Spacey got emotional, and stated that he was humbled by the outcome. He further extended gratitude to the court for carefully considering all of the evidence that was presented in an effort to clear his name before reaching their decision.
In a statement to the press, Kevin Spacey said, “there’s a lot for me to process after what has just happened today.” Considering that his legal troubles started in 2017 when Rapp first accused him of sexual misconduct, it’s safe to say that the American Beauty actor is letting out a sigh of relief upon hearing the not guilty verdict in this most recent case.
