Kevin Costner Announces Divorce After 18 Years Of Marriage

After 18 years of marriage, Kevin Costner and his wife, Christine Baumgartner, are divorcing. The Yellowstone star confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter. “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired, which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” the statement said.
“We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time,” the message continued. The divorce is reportedly the result of irreconcilable differences, with Baumgartner requesting joint custody of their three children – Cayden, Hayes, and Grace. Kevin Costner married the handbag designer in 2004.
The divorce announcement isn’t too surprising, as rumors of a split surfaced in 2022. At the time, a source close to Kevin Costner’s family said his Yellowstone schedule in Montana “knocked a hole in their family life.” Baumgartner allegedly asked her husband to quit the series after season five, or their marriage might be over. She had grown tired of being alone in Los Angeles with their children.
Kevin Costner was previously married to Cindy Silva, but they divorced in 1994. He brought four kids into his marriage to Christine Baumgartner, including three with Silva and one with ex-girlfriend Bridget Rooney. But things seemed to be improving with Christine Baumgartner during the 2023 awards season.
After the actor won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series, he gushed about his wife on social media. “We watched from home, and it wasn’t the same,” Kevin Costner said in a video as he recounted missing out on the festivities. He explained that Baumgartner realized that his “heart was a little bit low,” so she brought a large number of balloons home so the family could celebrate.
But it seems like Kevin Costner’s career ultimately got in the way of their relationship. The actor currently has no plans to quit the Taylor Sheridan series, which is set to air the remainder of season five later this year. The story will see John Dutton deal with losing his legacy due to the ranch while a bacterial illness threatens to wipe out his cattle.
The Zack Snyder’s Justice League actor is also working on a brand new Western called Horizon. The film is directed and co-written by and starring Kevin Costner, who also serves as its star and producer. The cast also includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, and Thomas Haden Church. Three sequels have also been approved, with production on the first commencing in August 2022.
The story is set in pre and post-American Civil War and will explore the expansion of the American West. Meanwhile, Kevin Costner was spotted at the Milano Restaurant and Bar in Las Vegas with the cast and crew of Horizon: An American Saga. The night out followed a special pre-screening of the new project. The actor happily posed for pictures with adoring fans and restaurant owner Laura Migliorini.
She shared the snap on social media, where the actor was seen still wearing his wedding ring. It’s currently unclear if Kevin Costner will star in the sixth season of Yellowstone, which airs on the Paramount Network.
