Kate Beckinsale appears to be bruised and bloodied in her most recent Instagram post. The post, which shows the Underworld actress lying in bed beside a cat and a dog with abrasions on her hands and forehead, has left many fans speculating what caused these injuries. The caption simply reads a cryptic “am/pm” and there have been no comments from Beckinsale herself to clarify the significance of the strange photographs.

Kate Beckinsale is an English actress and model most known for her appearances as Selene, the relentless vampire assassin, in the Underworld franchise. Selene is on a mission to hunt and kill Lycans, a mythical werewolf species responsible for murdering her family.

What many people may not be aware of is Kate Beckinsale’s involvement with Corbin Shaw X Women’s Aid, a non-profit support group seeking to raise awareness for victims of domestic violence. In the actress’s most recent post before the bloodied image, she expresses statistics and commonality of domestic violence, particularly surrounding football season amid the ongoing World Cup, for which Beckinsale is herself a devoted fan.

Perhaps Kate Beckinsale is a victim of domestic violence or abuse herself, as so many women in the entertainment industry are. Maybe she used makeup and prosthetics to produce this image to shock and awe her following of over 5.5 million Instagram users, in order to raise awareness for this noble cause.

Even still, these injuries could have been caused by her active lifestyle, as at the time of this writing she has an Instagram story featuring herself and a friend ice skating in the pouring rain. For now, the actress has given no direct answers about her post, so this is all speculation.

Kate Beckinsale’s lack of follow up has left fans searching for answers, of course, leaving some to joke in the comments that she sustained these injuries during a savage Lycan attack, referencing her Underworld character. Others questioned if these photos simply displayed the aftermath of a play fight with her furry companions which got out of hand, a situation many pet owners can likely relate to.

Regardless, this is certainly a departure from her usual Instagram activity which features such lighthearted fun as goofy pranks, cute animal images, and promotional material for her new spy thriller Canary Black, which is set to release sometime in 2023.

For now, I suppose we’ll have to wait and see what Kate Beckinsale has in store for us, whether that means more movie news or simply an explanation for this bizarre and cryptic post, and hope that whatever has caused the bruising in these photos has been sorted out.

If you or someone you know is struggling with domestic abuse you can visit Womensaid.org for support, as the actress has pointed out in one of her posts. Knowing Kate Beckinsale’s proclivity for posting often on Instagram, there is a good chance we will get some kind of update from the star at some point soon.
