Kanye Says He Will Run For President In 2024
Kanye West has seemed to announce his candidacy for the U.S. President via Twitter.
In a video on Twitter, Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) seems to confirm that he will be running for President of the United States in 2024. In the video, West is seen examining merchandise being created with a “Ye 24” logo, and when Juliano, the videographer, asks “So you are running?” the former billionaire responds with a simple “Yes.”
Offering some scant details on his potential platform, West said that we need to ensure that people receive the same level of food, the same level of water, and the same level of education. “We’re engineering opportunities,” he added “We’re moving past the past. We’re focusing on the future.”
This video is certain to add to the controversy surrounding Kanye West, who has recently come under harsh criticism for making antisemitic comments in early October via Twitter. The same day West made those comments, Meta confirmed a restriction was placed on the rapper’s Instagram account and that all of the content had been removed. West also made controversial comments on Tucker Carlson Tonight, the podcast Drink Champs, and NewsNation’s Cuomo.
In reaction to his comments, the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) stopped representing the Grammy recording artist and the rapper and fashion designer lost a contract with Adidas for his Yeezy line of sneakers, which accounted for $1.5 billion of his net worth, thus removing him from the Forbes Billionaire’s list.
Adidas has its own history of antisemitism as its founders had connections to the Nazi Party. This checkered past put pressure on Adidas to make some kind of response, but until October 6, all the company had said publicly was that their relationship with Kanye West was under review. It would seem, however, that the final straw for Adidas came from Nazi sympathizers in Los Angeles, who hung signs on a freeway overpass saying “you know Kanye is right”, alongside swastikas and other Nazi symbols.
Several other business connections have dropped Kanye West as a partner because of his controversial statements and a planned documentary about him has been canceled. The falling star’s fortune has dropped down to $400 million, which is mostly real estate and royalties.
Details surrounding Kanye West’s proposed Presidential run in 2024 are sketchy, at best. It is known that he is championed by some figures in the far-right wing, who see him as a popular voice to spread their message. Recently, Kanye West acquired the right-wing social media site Parler after being banned from Instagram and Twitter for his antisemitic ramblings. West’s Twitter account was recently restored by new site owner Elon Musk.
Parler is one of several right-wing-friendly platforms to emerge during the Donald Trump era. It gained popularity as the former president’s supporters claimed unfair treatment by Twitter and other apps, which bans hate speech such as West’s antisemitic remarks. There’s also Gettr, which is run by former Trump advisor Jason Miller, and Trump’s own app, Truth Social, whose parent company is under federal investigation as it seeks to go public.
Kanye West appears to not be going down quietly, despite the setbacks caused by his self-induced implosion, and preparing for 2024. “In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,” he said.
